<p>What is your favorite and least favorite thing about Penn? How many classes do you take each semester? Is the food good? (I heard there was a going green sort of movement for the meal plans?) How are your dorms?</p>

<p>Lots of good info in this discussion. Although HafsaRox, a new student, had a lot of negative things to say based on being at school for 5 whole days with a bad attitude, there was lots of good posts about Penn in this thread…just ignore the noobs.</p>
<p>Favorite thing about Penn - do I really have to pick just one? God I love this place. I think campus is beautiful. The classroom facilities are really, really nice. The food is amazing for a college campus, and there is food available 24/7. BYOs. Really great social scene.</p>
<p>Least favorite thing about Penn - there are a few complaints I’d like to note, but nothing is glaring. First, writing seminars are a PAIN THE ASS. But they’re mandatory to graduate, so just get it done with during your first semester freshman year. Next, the streets flood, specifically 34th & Spruce and 33rd & Spruce, when it rains. I literally will long-jump a huge puddle to avoid having to submerge my shoes. Finally, it will take you more than ten minutes (and passing time between classes is ten minutes). I am a very fast walker, and yet I’m consistently late to MGMT 100 in Huntsman Hall when I come from CIS 160 in the chem building or CIS 120 in the engineering quad. But the professors are very understanding about being late for this reason, so don’t worry about it.</p>
<p>Food - I think the food here is amazing. The cafeterias offer a great selection, and there’s one close to everybody. Houston Hall has some really delicious entries, but they’re expensive, and the lines get very long. The food carts are hit-or-miss, but they’re cheap and quick - just avoid going to them at noon, because the lines will be half an hour long. There’s a Wawa next to my dorm, which is great, and there’s a Fresh Grocer on 40th and Walnut, from which I have picked up various delicacies to cook.</p>
<p>Dorms - Hill sucks, but the community is guaranteed to be great there. The Quad is kind of dirty and small (that’s where I live), and your hall will be hit or miss. The bathrooms in Fisher, for the record, are abysmal compared to those in Ware and Riepe. In fact, I sort of regret not putting Ware or Riepe as my first choice (instead of Fisher) just because of the bathroom thing. King’s Court has a great cafeteria and very comfortable rooms, but they’re a far walk from just about everything on campus. I don’t know too much about the other college houses.</p>

Favorite: Locust Walk in the evenings. It’s like Hogwarts.
Least Favorite: I have no idea what my chem teacher is saying. And the midterm’s this Friday.</p>

This semester, I’m taking 3. But one’s an intensive language course so it counts for two credits. It’s not too intense yet, but there is still a lot of work.</p>

The food is O.K. You will get sick of sushi. Use up your meal swipes, they don’t carry over. Dining dollars carry over and the Uncommon Market in 1920 Commons is useful for buying groceries with your dining dollars. Like bread and ramen and stuff.</p>
<p>How are your dorms?
They’re okay. None of the dorms I’ve seen are mind-boggling-ly beautiful. The best are in the highrises, I think, but I haven’t gone into the Quad, KCEH, DuBois, or Hill yet. I hear Gregory is pretty damn awful though. </p>
<p>If you live in Stouffer Mayer/ Stouffer Stouffer, you will definitely need to bring a lamp and a bunch of lightbulbs. Can you believe there weren’t any lightbulbs in the dim little lamps they had there when I moved in?</p>

<p>Favorite thing: All the activities, clubs and social events as a whole. Penn’s very social and fun, definitely a lot more than just learning. I really liked living in the Quad but I enjoy living off campus too. </p>
<p>Least favorite things: Writing seminars are **** like someone previously mentioned. Ended up dropping mine last year, probably going to have to take as a junior but that’s fine with me. I don’t like the dining halls but I hear they’re better this year. Don’t care for the ridiculously slow bureaucracy here but that’s life and not something specific to Penn.</p>

<p>And yes, writing sems suck in general. The dining halls have cotton-candy flavored ice-cream, so I’m happy enough. From my experience, Hill seems to be the best dining hall. KCEnglish is really small, 1920s is good too. I haven’t found the others yet.</p>
