What is your favorite class at Cornell?

Just curious. I've heard the Intro. to Wines class is pretty good....

Lol that also happens to be the most failed class on campus.

I’ve heard good things about a Daily Nutrition class and a Magical Mushrooms class, although I don’t have specific names for either.

There are SO many great classes, and this topic has surely been discussed before.

A more appropriate question would be: What’s your favorite class in “Department X” or “School Y” or “Discipline Z.” That I might be able to answer. There are just too many great classes to list.

astro 101!! very interesting

lol cool…I didn’t realize it had already been discussed. I guess I am curious about Hotel School classes (hence why I have heard about the infamous Wines class) but I am also interested in other general fun classes! Anything really obscure?

pop culture 1950 to present, wines, prisons, history of rock

is there a piano learning class? haha. i wanna learn how to play the piano!!

Nutrition and Disease, Organizational Writing and Intro to Wines were among my favorites.

Unfortunately…you’ll have to wait until you’re 21 (and most likely a senior) to take Wines :)

oh organizational writing does not bring back the best memories for me…

my favorite class has been econ/info/cs/soc 204: networks. A really interdisciplinary and interesting course (as shown by the cross listing in 4 depeartments!) taught by remarkable professors, meaningful homeworks, and fair and pretty easy exams.

Haha…I do get that response from people when I tell them I enjoyed the class. However, I knew I had it in the bag on Day 1 when I told the prof of my involvement in breast cancer research. The prof happens to be a breast cancer survivor and I somehow managed to include my research in almost all of the assignments…it certainly didn’t hurt my grade :)

Actually, wines can be taken if you’re under 21. See [New York Alcoholic Beverage Control Law Section 65-c - Unlawful Possession Of An Alcoholic Beverage With The Intent To Consume By Persons Under The Age Of Twenty-one Years. - New York Attorney Resources - New York Laws](New York Alcoholic Beverage Control Law Section 65-C - Unlawful possession of an alcoholic beverage with the intent to consume by persons under the age of twenty-one years. - New York Attorney Resources - New York Laws) , section 2(a). (This law is referenced in the course catalog)

lucky you :)! she does tend to have favorites in that class…in my class it was the 3 hockey players

@Dragon - If you were to combine the pianos available in the music practice rooms:

[Practice Rooms](http://music.cornell.edu/performing/practice-rooms/)

…with one or two electives from the Department of Music:

[Music Courses](http://music.cornell.edu/undergraduate/courses/course-descriptions/)

…then you’d have a start. You’ll also be able to find plenty of great piano tutors on campus.

Interesting…I just remember having to sign something verifying that I was 21. But I really don’t think they checked it b/c my 19 year old friend was in the class (and not a Hotelie).

Really? haha… Do people actually get drunk in that class? haha… I want to take that class also but I want to be responsible and wait until I turn 21 :)… And I heard the final exam for the wine tasting class is really really hard haha…

You get about 6 2 oz. tasting portions in each lecture. If you can get drunk on that, I would be impressed.

Wines has the reputation of being the most failed class at Cornell, but it’s not true. The class is graded on a P/F basis and you have two exams. Each exam is 150 points and I think you need 210/300 to pass. The exams are really easy…all you have to do is know the notes cold and you’ll do fine. I got near perfect scores on both the midterm and final.

yea really not that hard. you just have to learn characteristics of each grape and characteristics of each region. you dont do tastings/have to identify a wine blind etc in the exams. if you purchase takenote (a professional note taking service), or read, or get one of the 20 study guides floating around youll be find. most people i know either read the book or used the notes. i bought takenote, its not necessary, but i found it hard to take my own notes in class with my wine glasses out.

I read the book before class…but studies off of TakeNote and the notes that were posted on blackboard.

so is the TakeNote available for every class? or only for certain classes?

It’s only available for certain classes. The list is published at the start of each semester.
