You can add a little sprig of fresh dill on top too if you want to make it look even fancier ; )
Easy to assemble:
Ball of burrata , sprinkle cut in half grape tomatoes , corn and basil then drizzle balsamic glaze. Serve with baguette slices or crostini.
ours was cream cheese rolled into a ball, covered with crab meat, covered with cocktail sauce, served with Triscuits.
I went to a party last week with cheese, basil, and a tomato on a skewer with a drizzle of balsamic. It was delicious. Someone else had a big wedge of cheese from costco (Jarlsberg I think) and that was really good too. I had brought dried fruit but the thing that was popular was spiced gum drops! Even adults like a little sweet.
I believe there was crab meat, that makes more sense. I was going to bring the caprese salad toothpicks last weekend but the host asked me to bring a salad, so I just put the cheese and tomatoes in it (viewing party of Saints of Newark so there was a theme).
I buy a small brie cheese, put some honey over it and bake it for a few (5-7) minutes and serve with crackers.
Honestly my crowd is happy with onion dip (Lipton’s onion soup mix +sour cream) and chips!
And who wouldn’t be!
So make ahead refrigerated non-dip finger food that doesn’t have to be heated…pinwheels are very popular around here but we haven’t made them (I think everyone buys them at Costco). My husband makes bruschetta with fresh figs grilled with brushed on balsamic vinegar and goat cheese.
I wonder if in this COVID era people prefer individual items over sharing a bowl of dip with a crowd?
With covid I get wide rimmed plastic cups and put some dip on the bottom with either chips or raw veggies on the top. Seems to work well enough for now.
FWIW I’ve also been cutting cheese etc. into bite sized pieces so people don’t need to share a knife.
I’ve always preferred pick up rather than dip or spread. Easier and less messy.
I love Trader Joe’s Dimsum, dumplings, whatever they are called in the freezer section. They are veggie, in the green bag. I can just steam them in a microwave, serve with chili plum sauce and they all go.
I went to my book club a few weeks ago and completely forgot that I hadn’t sorted out an appetizer to bring. Luckily we had quite a few chicken drumsticks left over from a bbq. They were a big hit.
Not finger food, but I often make pasta and toss it with olive oil, basil, pine nuts and chopped tomatoes, usually cherry tomatoes cut in half. It’s super easy to make ahead and it’s always popular. It’s my go to filler-in for bbq’s.
I love Trader Joe’s tapenade! So good & affordable. I’ll have to try the Cowboy Caviar too!
happy1 - I’ve been to get-togethers with the same - dip in a plastic cup; also plastic cups with trailmix. Very convenient and sanitary!
I like to serve shrimp and cocktail sauce. It’s a nice treat and less of splurge of calories/fat than some of the other things we serve.
Sam’s used to have a handy platter of cheese “logs” wrapped in assortment of prosciutto and salami. It was a go-to for parties. But we have not seen it for a while. They do now have a nice $3.99 red pepper hummus, huge container. We serve to company with the naan bites displayed near the hummus and cut-up veggies.
We recently tried Sam’s frozen pot stickers. Pretty easy to make in frypan, and we all really liked them. Big box but 5 containers inside so you can use what you need.
If time permits, I like making deviled eggs. You can also purchase at grocery store, but I have not tried that.
For Covid individual servings, I use cupcake paper holders. They can hold many different things.
@Marilyn - Don’t be surprised if I show up at your house for happy hour.
For us it is a fluorescent orange cheeseball. It isn’t a party without a cheeseball.
I think I’d have to make a pocket with the roast beef because it seems to me that the blue cheese would crumble off of a skewer. At least it would for me. Do you use a whole grape? Green or red?
Search for 5J ham from Spain.
Probably doesn’t fit your requirements but I often make homemade veggie based salsa or fruit salsa.
Another idea if you like skewers is pepperoni or summer sausage. Mini mozzarella ball, grape tomato, basil - pizza in a bite!
