What is your favorite thing about UTampa?

Hey, I was recently accepted got a very tempting scholarship, which moved UTampa into my top choices. What was your favorite thing about UT?

Favorite thing about UT was the campus.

My son was accepted with a nice merit scholarship. Since then he has heard almost nothing from the school which is a strike against UT. Other schools (Eckerd, Alabama, College of Charleston, UNCW) have continued frequent correspondence and communications since accepting him.

Based on the seeming lack of interest and follow through I think Tampa is off the list at this point. Our assumption is we would find a similar lack of interaction and helpfulness from the administration throughout his time on campus if he attended.

My son was accepted to all of the schools that he applied to, but more specifically he knew what he wanted to major in. We have visited schools all over the East Coast as well as California which is where we are located. UT was the last school that we visited and I have to tell you he loved it there. We were treated to a private tour (which I scheduled ahead of time) of the film department, had lunch with a student and then took a school tour. He absolutely loved everything about the school. You can schedule private tours of any department, if you call an admissions counselor, they will direct you on how to do this. Our admissions counselor has been overly accommodating and welcoming. I have a new confidence that my son has picked what is right for him. Coming from California, he is definitely not going there for the weather which is a big draw for a lot of the kids. He loved the warm feeling he got when wandering around campus, our two tour guides were both great, and his admissions counselor has always been there either by phone or e-mail. In fact, we are anxiously awaiting their Accepted Student Orientation in Newport Beach, California in March.
I cannot imagine that others have not had the same experience we did. My suggestion is to keep close contact with their admissions counselors and they will guide you. Everyone that we have come in contact with has been great. Every question that we have had has not gone unanswered.
Can’t wait to see my baby go off to UT in August and be able to call himself a Spartan!

Honestly since I wrote my earlier review on 1/20 things seem to have turned around. My son has been contacted several times by UT, including the award of a Departmental scholarship, acceptance into Honors, an invitation to a local accepted student event, calls from current UT students, etc. Still waiting to hear about one more scholarship, but UT is now in my son’s top 3 schools. He teases his friends headed to schools in the NE that while they enjoy cold and blizzards, he will be on the water and have palm trees on his campus.

Great to hear the positive feedback (and to see some activity on this board)! My daughter is a junior and University of Tampa is definitely in her top 3 along with College of Charleston and University of South Carolina. I look forward to reading more about your experiences!!!

My son is accepted at USC and CofC as well. His top 3 schools (right now at least) are UT, CofC, and Univ of Alabama. Once he (finally) makes his decision I will post and let all know where he is going and the reason(s) for his decision.

My daughter was very interested in UT and applied Early Action. She got waitlisted in Jan. Sometime in Feb she was accepted but didn’t get a letter or anything formal from the school. She had to go into the applicant’s portal to see the change in status. I am taking that as a symptom of the less than engaging administration.
