Debate

I love that people here are saying, ā€œMy school only offers APs beginning in sophomore year.ā€ Where I come from, APs are only offered senior yearā€¦ and we only have 2 (Bio and English Lit). The counselor never talks about self-studying. I have almost no classload freedom. I have required gym, health, and art credits. Some of my honors courses have been cancelled in certain years because more kids would rather take Vehicle Maintenance, Crafts, or Fitness Management 2 (itā€™s like Phy Ed 4ā€¦ you know super advanced slack class).

Oh the joys of living in rural America.

if you go above and beyond the extenuating circumstances, Stewie32, then colleges will be mightily impressed. i guarantee it.

Oh yes. I came to this realization quite a while ago. Luckily, I am (in my opinion) a good test taker, essay writer, and have great leadership positions. I put in a decent amount of work to ensure that I would be competitive at the top-tier colleges (I was never really intrigued by the Ivies or I would have put in a lot more work for SATs/ACTs).

Unfortunately, I do not believe that the education that I have received has really enhanced my abilities. Oh wellā€¦ I got into all of the colleges that I wanted to/applied to.

Keep in mind that Honors at my school is basically like, do two or three extra credit projects. We are heterogeneous, so you have to sign up to take the ā€œHonors Optionā€ and the teacher just gives you extra work. My transcript makes it look like a lot more though.

Also, Iā€™ve got some pretty slacker-ish classes, but I have to take Yearbook every semester because Iā€™m the editor-in-chief and TV Production is a class that I created at our school and Iā€™m a head anchor so I canā€™t avoid taking it.

Even though this seems SO basic compared to other CCers, this schedule is more advanced than 90% of the students who graduate from my school.

Please note I go to a very VERY weird school were there are no requirements to graduate although your advisor has to approve your schedule.
