Please post your hook, just curious as to what people claim is theirs. Thanks.

I don't have one. Yeah, I fail at life. Some would consider being a urm a hook, but I don't. :D

Personally, I do not believe being a URM is a hook in itself; however, being a URM along with some other unique things could be a hook. Same with legacy.

Let me say that I am quite impressed by the stats of the majority (if not all) of the people on these boards! However, when I start reading the posts under "What are my chances"; I begin to believe I am reading the stats of the same person. My point is that although the stats are very, very impressive - they are basically all the same. Nothing really stands out on them to separate one from another. Imagine how difficult it is for the college admins to choose! If they admit the majority of their students who have 1550+ SATS and 4.0 gpa, top 5% of their class and of couse the laundry list of ECs, National this and that -- then they are "all the same". A lot of people (like me) think they have a hook or are very unique; but after reading the boards - a lot of us are just like each other.

none, but i guess..urm/twin (w/ identical stats too)/poverty level work for me. they shouldn't, but they do.

What is poverty level work ?

one, but i guess..urm/twin (w/ identical stats too)/poverty level work for me. they shouldn't, but they do.

THEY work for me...as in i guess those three things help me out somehow, not as in poverty level work..just that we are AT poverty level.

Got it - thanks. Twins + poverty + URM.

In theory, should we attend the same college, what could I plan to learn from you?

How to bake cookies? I don't know; we probably won't be going to the same college. :)

Oh, to what colleges will you be applying?

Unsure, but my top choices are Barnard and NYU. Most people don't like those schools, so I'm assuming you are among the mass number of people who dislike the idea of an all-girls school and are not very fond of the idea of a non-campus.

Don't have one, but hopefully I'll get one.

You are right. All girls school is definitely out of the question and I would prefer a college with a defined campus, although it is not a requirement. I am also passionately involved in a somewhat unique sport and need to be close to training facilites.

" but i guess..urm/twin (w/ identical stats too)/poverty level work for me. they shouldn't, but they do."

How is being a "twin" a hook? Do twins really have advantage in college admission?

I agree. I do not think things you are born into or have no say-so in the matter count as hooks (i.e. legacy, race, economic status); but rather things you've done in your life as a result of your actions/drive/decisions and of course the combination of those things that are a 'hook'.

Graduated high school at 15. Russian living in Thailand. Potential philosophy major.

Wow! You must be smart to graduate high school at 15. Russian living in Thailand - was that your choice?

why in the world would you want to leave highschool early? definitely not a hook... because you know, the admissions officers know it really isn't any fun to enter the work force any sooner.

Is being crowned at a state teen pageant a hook?
