Good thing I don’t go to school to impress you, LogicWarrior.

If you’re offended by people rolling eyes at your major, why did you pick it?

Mine will be political science, with a possible double in pre-law or international relations.

major - Finance
minor - Int’l Business

Eyeroll: Natural History, Philosophy, Journalism, Marketing

Impressed: Math, Neuroscience, CS

“If you’re offended by people rolling eyes at your major, why did you pick it?”

Who said I was offended? Everything you do in life, whether it be which occupation you’re in, or who you’re dating, or you’re upbringing, will no doubt be criticized by someone. I am pursuing a course of study I find fascinating. The point of my post was, if I was trying to impress people like you, I would no doubt be majoring in something different.(perhaps something I find far less fascinating) Thus, I’m happy that I am not trying to do that.

flattering, but like i said, this will be too hard with all my stupid requirements, so most likely Econ with a double minor in Genetics and Mollecular Bio, or NeuroSci with a minor in Econ. Not so impressive anymore, lol. :D

Impressed: Aerospace Engineering - what do y’all do, design airplanes or something?!
Philosophy is nothing to sneer at, Logic. it can be pretty difficult.

Civil Engineering major

We don’t have minors at UW, but you can get a certificate if it’s available, or petition to have one made. Some of them are pretty interesting, like International Engineering or Japanese Studies for Engineering Majors. I’m boring so I’m going for a mathematics certificate.

For the record, it is difficult for me to say that I am impressed with anyone’s choice of major. We all have different strengths and aptitudes that can allow us to grasp material and concepts in a given discipline far better than others. I will say that if someone is genuinely not quantitatively inclined and takes on engineering or math, that is impressive. Same with a dyslexic English major. But some stranger on the internet stating what they’re majoring in alone does not provide sufficient information to reach a conclusion.

Government and Arabic with minor or third major in Russian.
Wanting to do a degree certificate in International Relations.

@CCC88 stop using your cold logic to analyze everything for a second aren’t you a wee bit impressed when you hear someone doing something very difficult or original? I never heard of Aerospace Engineering and just googled it find out what it is:
So gstein is studying Rocket Science! wow

edit: something like a triple major impresses me too…you’ve gotta admire the worth ethic of some of these kids.

Ugh, I wanted to do Aerospace, but the only school (that I’ve found) in NYC that offers it is NYU Poly; and I don’t want to go there.

I guess that would be my impressed, and the neuroscience major.

Is anybody here currently an economics major? If so, would you say that it is math heavy?

Lower-division econ requires algebra, upper-division econ requires calculus, and graduate-level econ requires upper-division math.

^ but beginning econ is generally just 2 classes, Intro to Macro and Intro Micro, often students get out of these with AP credits. it’s true most Econ grad students have Math degrees rather than Econ, but for undergrad, not much math is needed. Maybe 2-3 Calc classes, 2-3 Stats classes, and Econometrics. This is just minimum degree requirements, as advanced electives often have more math prereqs. I couldn’t take a Game Theory class I wanted to because i’ll need an additional 2 semesters of calc first. Oh, and degree requirements vary from college to college. I’m sure the amount of math needed is easier some places.

I am planning on going into Economics. There are two divisions of economics majors at Wisconsin Madison.

Economics A is the basic econ degree.

Economics B is much more in depth and math intensive and are for kids planning on going to grad school. I’m planning on doing this.

^ You again…

How bout’ making a new account that isn’t a blatant copy of mine, mkay?

Just kidding, we must be peaceful. There are only so many of us you know?

I’m going for Health Sciences (I’m in an accelerated program for Physician Asst. studies) with a minor in theatre (just because it’s fun).

Sports Management major, business minor. Possibly adding a major or minor in Geography in the future.

Most people are eco and science? Cool. I"ve heard science majors (engineering, neuroscience etc) are INSANELY hard.
