Ok, then you will just apply as a regular transfer student. You will need SAT scores for Tufts. You will have to send in your GES scores in place of a high school transcript along with your college transcript. Are you committed to MA or are you amenable to moving. What is your current gpa
When you filed the fafsa what is your parents EFC.
Do they own a business
Are they still married to each other
Do the have a home other than your primary home
GPA is 3.3 and EFC is 0. why do you want to know this information? My family has no say in what college i choose to go to. I have already stated they are not helping me in any way with my education or paying for anything.
Because there is a difference in them having a high EFC and refusing to pay and having a 0 EFC and being not being able to pay.
Since we know that you have a 0 EFC, we can try to guide you toward schools that will meet all of your need that will be affordable options that you have not thought about.
Right now we know that:
You are eligible for $5815 in Pell
a Massgrant if you stay in state (the MA people can chime in to how much that will be) or do you know how much of a Massgrant you are eligible for?
How are you doing this semester. Are you in a position to pull your GPA up to be a truly viable candidate at schools which can give you the money you need. Right now you are a solid B+ student. Tufts and Brandeis will be a reach for you. Getting at least a 3.5 would be better.
Yes I know my gpa stinks, which I why I stated I have doubt schools like Brandeis and Tufts would accept me. Im thankful I even got accepted to schools like the University of Miami and UCONN considering I have like 5 Withdraws and my first semester I had a 1.64 gpa. It was a mess.
Google the name of your CC and articulation agreements (which are essentially guaranteed admissions when you receive your associates). That will help expand your list. They will also tell you the guidelines that you need for admissions in to certain programs.
For example Onondaga CC is part of the SUNY system (State University of NY).
Here is the list of schools that they have articulation agreements with when a student completes their associates
They have an agreement with Umass Amherst, which doesn’t really help me because thats actually somewhere where I already applied to…
Is that the only school?
I see that you can use your mass grant in Vermont, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia
are there any articulation agreements in those states from your CC?
No the agreement only works in Massachusetts.
@AvPsychologyGirl Good Morning. You were up late last night I see.
The beauty of going to the CC like you did is that MA has well thought out plans for moving people from CC to the 4 year college system. You know this as you can transfer right into UMASS and not lose any credits. That is your best bet I think. You can also get your Masters there after you make some wonderful connections with the professors there.Just because UMASS might have passed you over once does not mean you cannot bring your grades up at CC and then transfer in. It could work out really well for you.
Most students do NOT take classes in the summer. They work. So…staying at your CC until May, and working in the summer…and then matriculating in Fall 2017 would be what MOST students would be doing.
Plus…it might be nice for you to earn some money during the summer for things your need based aid won’t cover.
You should be completing applications for fall 2017 now too, in my opinion. And you need to do the 2017-2018 fafsa and Profile for schools that require that (Tufts does…so does Brandeis).
Either that…or plan to stay wherever you decide to enroll in spring 2017. No need to go in the summer…get a job.
Am I just supposed to ask the same professors to submit LOR for the fall semester? That would make me uncomfortable
Yes…ask them. Those writing letters of reference are well used to doing this.
Ok
“Am I just supposed to ask the same professors to submit LOR for the fall semester? That would make me uncomfortable”
I suspect that if you had the opportunity to apprise the professors who have already written recommendations for you of your new plan, more confident of the steps you are taking forward, more solid in your commitment toward matriculating and embracing the next stage of your academic journey, they would know that your asking at this time (so soon after the last time) is not being done frivolously.
Absolutely none of that is necessary, mind you, and may not even be welcome.
It sounds as if you feel bad for asking, but, as has been said, they “are well used to doing this.”
EDIT: I see you’ve gone with the advice. Chin up, good luck!
Well maybe not these professors because mine had trouble uploading the documents because he couldn’t even remember what the website was called, -and he has a Phd b-(
DELETED LINE/
Everyone’s got a lot on their minds, and it’s true, you may have to hold the hand of some of the recommenders in order to have things get done in this “new” world. I have been there with my oldest daughter.
Be nice and smile when you ask, if you ask in person (I recommend it). That goes a long way.
I was referring to maybe this professor is not used to it. Regardless I will talk to him about it upon hearing about the results from the other schools. He’s really nice, and he did tell me to keep him in the loop about everything.
^^Yeah, better take that out. Here goes.
You can keep the spring admit application in play for Smith (or you can ask about fall admissions). you can ask Tufts and Brandeis to move your application to fall 2017. Since you stated that you had a bad first semester, you can use the benefit of time to have another good semester under your belt.
