when colleges process apps, there's an assistant director of admissions for each region, so your app is compared with the pool of apps in your region (which can include just your school and neighboring schools, your entire school district, or your district and neighboring districts, based on population/college).

So would a person with a 1800 SAT score, but one of the highest in their district, be as competitive as someone with a 2100 SAT score, but pretty normal for their district?

Short answer: No.
Long Answer: If your district is composed mostly of URM, then yes. If not, no.

If I got a 2230 and the school average is 1770, will that make me stand out?
Or not, because it's not THAT huge of a difference. (like school average being 1400)

"your app is compared with the pool of apps in your region"

hmm I didn't know this.
Hope it's true!!

My school's average is a 1510, but SAT is a nation-wide test (hence the percentiles). I don't think colleges particularly care about intra-school rankings outside of, well, class rank.

lol not every at my school takes the SAT. alot are goin to local university, which doesnt req sat/act at all.
of those who actually took, mmm, i think the average is around 1350/2400~~ xD

My schools averages are actually above the national averages. Surprisingly haha. And sadly, my school doesnt rank. It only says top 5% or something.
But yeah if you get like 2000+ you pretty much get full ride to the local university.

If my scores for CR and M are 96% percentile and Writing is 99% but the combined scores are 99%..does that mean anything because I'm sure other people have their points distributed differently. Will colleges see the 99% and be impressed or look at the individual sections and be not so impressed because it was really the Writing section that gave my score a push.

My school avg is 1600, while i got a 1810. Boooo

There's no reported SAT average at our high school because the ACT is the predominant test. The average ACT score is 25.5. Suburban public school.

Oh, I didn't realize CB reported the average for individual high schools. My guess was correct: 1320/2400.

Our school: 1549/2400.

I was one of the three juniors that took it, and I received a 2210. First try woo

1400/2400. In this mediocre public high school an 1800 is considered very good.

Most top graduates go to the state flagship university. Last year's val was the first National Merit semifinalist in years, and that was a really big deal.

It's a different world than here on cc...

2 students (including me) have taken the SAT so probably 2200 or so lol. Our ACT average is 22 because everyone takes the ACT.

i'm kind of embarrassed to say, lol...

1160/2400.....780/1600

According to collegeboard: Cr 390, M390, Wr 380

1360/2400, so much for public schools

~1976... Top 3 public school in NJ (it would be higher, but we have too many immigrants and sketchy people coming into our town, so our ranking is dropping every year -_-)

dododo what town is that? i'm from hawthorne and we're ranked 148/316 with an average sat score of 1480ish/2400

~1300/2400

public shool in ca :

im jealous of all your schools!
