What it takes to transfer into a good college

All right, so here's the situation. I am going ot UCI this fall, but it's defintely not my dream school. I know my capabliities, and I"ve realized that I didn't put in effort when needed in high school. I will leave with a 3.4 gpa and a 2170 SAT I , along w/ a 800 Math II, 730 US History, and a 630 Biology. Now, if i work my butt off at UCI, get a 4.0 (im a bio major), get good recs, and in general just be the complete opposite of what i was in high school, esp. with good essays, what do you guys think my chances would be at schools like Northwestern, WAshU, and the Ivies?

imran, at least you dont have to take the sats again...i think you would have a fair shot at washu (got in with similiar scores but higher hs gpa)...however, maybe you can speak about your upward trend in the essays...you should def. give it a shot, if anything for peace of mind that u tried, (and hopefully got in)...also start forming relations w/2 profs now...these are all from experience, im not an expert or anything...gluck!

Hey, imran, I'm in the same situation as you are. I'm not sure I want to stay at UCI for four years. I don't think it's strong in the humanities, where I would like to study. I could've researched this beforehand, but it wouldn't have made much difference because it was either UCI or UCSB for me.

BTW, if it matters: 3.5 GPA, 1710 SAT, 26 ACT, hoping to transfer too.

yeah im getting a lot of elective credits theoretically from my AP tests (somewehre around 50), so im kinda hoping i can start off w/ tough classes and transfer up. im just praying to god that my college grades will impact it more than high school grades.

yeah, also if they look @ high school ECs and stuff, i was really big into debate, was captain of public forum debate at my high school, won several awards. so basically it was my GPA im sure that ****ed me over college admissions wise.
