Reed College
Harvard University
MIT
Caltech
Johns Hopkins
Stanford
Yale
Princeton
UChicago
Amherst
Cornell
Olin College (Bioengineering)
Berkeley

Oh, and I’m going to have a ton more of AP’s from this and next year. The scores I put were only from frosh/soph years. Plus, I was born in Alaska, so idk if that could give me some sort of statistical advantage. And I’m a National Merit Finalist

–
IZ

Good chance at all, except the HYP type schools are always impossible to call. I think it might help that you’re from Washington, I know someone from Alaska who got into almost all the schools she applied to.

I think you can count on JHU, Berkeley, Amherst, and Reed. The Ivies are always uncertain, but I’d say you have fairly good chances.

About Olin: It’s in my hometown (actually, just a few minutes down the street!) and I know they definitely consider diversity. Needham is very homogenous - all white, upper/middle class, all educated - so an African-American from Alaska is definitely a pull!

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/898671-chances-nyu-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

honestly, being a URM with your stats, you’er in basically anywhere you want to go. which is AWESOME. kudos and have a great time wherever you end up :)

buuuump bump bump

Nice stats, I think you could get into any of those schools, help me out plz :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/911042-new-york-schools.html</a></p>

bumparoooooooo

On your application I would not advise saying you are a labarro in volleyball. If the person checking it has anything to do with French or Volleyball they will likely be none too pleased with you. It’s libero. Volleyball honestly only helps if your team is top ranked, so if your team is that would help. My school is nationally ranked either #1, 2, or 3 pretty much every year, so the sport helps, but it often will mean nothing.

But of course that’s just a sport and you spelling your position wrong. Outside that everything looks very very strong, you should get into all your choices. Keyword is SHOULD, since most people don’t have anything better than you, but you still won’t get into all most likely because with the top schools there’s a certain random chance involved. They can only pick so many and when everyone is dead equal they run out of room eventually. But worst case scenario you will get rejected from a few of those, so you’ll still have plenty of amazing options. Congratulations.

You could probably be pretty sure of Olin, too. My best friend got in this year. She’s a National Merit Finalist (though I don’t know how you’re one currently. They don’t even name Semifinalists until senior year.). She also has good grades, engineering experience, and several extracurriculars. However, they have a required candidates’ weekend where you have to go to the college for a few days. You interview and solve problems with other finalists for admission. This may affect your chance of admission.

It’s Harvard College, by the way, for the undergrads.

I’m assuming I’ll get Finalist. I know that like half the kids get rejected, but I’m pretty sure (I hope) I’ll get in. And sry for my bad spelling lol. Our vball team is good, but not nationally ranked. Right now we’re 15-2, and we won our conference last year.

bump…

ECs look pretty good, especially the business, and the whole diversity thing should work in your favor.
I’d say you’ll definitely get in at Reed, Amherst, Chicago and most likely get in at Hopkins, Olin and Cornell. Don’t know much about Berkeley, MIT, or Caltech admissions (though I’ve heard Caltech is impossible…then again it might just be the people I know or where I’m from)
HYPS usually just ends up being determined by chance alone since there are so many people with killer stats

Did you spell IZ wrong or IZ that just me?

I see what you’re trying to do there with the thread title, but all I could think when I saw it was “Incorrect tense!” >.<

I agree with previous assessments…your stats are extremely solid, very good, which would make you a competitive or very-likely-in applicant for all the schools you listed. Being URM is an extra boost. Obviously Harvard/Yale/Princeton, along with Stanford/MIT/Caltech are uncertain, but you have a good shot.

Congratulations on ISEF, very nice.

Whoa, forget “you can count on JHU, …, Amherst, and Reed” and “I’d say you’ll definitely get in at Reed, Amherst, Chicago …”

None of these are safeties for anyone; they’re matches (50/50) at best. Check your stats against the schools’ Common Data Set sections C9 to C12, but also note that these stats may count for as little as 20% of admission criteria.

Nonetheless, with great ECs and if she boosts her SAT 2300+ (ideally 2350+), these schools are incredibly likely to accept her based on her race. I know, I know, race isn’t everything, but in doing research for a debate case on affirmative action, I found a source showing that elite schools accept around 80% of URMs >2350 (couldn’t find it with a quick Google search, but I can look harder if anyone’s interested). I’d be willing to bet that top LACs, who traditionally hurt for diversity, and less competitive top schools are almost guaranteed to accept a more than qualified URM. The fact of the matter is that the OP has excellent chances at top schools regardless of her race, but that her race can be the tip factor she needs to cinch admission.

Still, it would be foolish not to apply to a true safety or to a school EA for at least one guaranteed admission, if only for the peace of mind.

I’m a “him” btw lolz

Reed College- if you have a personality to go along with all of your extra-curriculars. And if you are in love with the school.
Harvard University- You’re thinking Harvard College, I assume. Good luck.
MIT- Why would you be considering Reed and MIT? This makes no sense. Research your schools.
Caltech- Ditto MIT.
Johns Hopkins- You have a chance.
Stanford- You might get in. But you don’t live in California, so it’s probably even less likely than Harvard.
Yale- Same as Harvard.
Princeton- Same as Yale.
UChicago- Pretty likely.
Amherst- Also likely.
Cornell- See Princeton.
Olin College (Bioengineering)- I know nothing about it, sorry.
Berkeley- it’s a UC and you don’t live in California… 92% in-state. Also most of your schools are medium sized but Berkeley has some-20,000 undergrads.

Do a little research.
