What keeps you going?

When things are rough, when you're stressed, when there seems to be more problems than there are solutions - what keeps you going?

That describes every day for me. Usually a “one more day” mindset.

I see school has a series of huge and small assignments. For instance, this weekend I have a massive assignment for Literature - what is getting me through the stress and dozens of typed pages is the whole “once I get through this, its smooth sailing until my teacher smacks me over the head with another killer” in a few weeks or something.

I go through a week like I would a marathon. I am a swimmer though and train every day, so that’s not a hyperbole.

Everyday, I find something to look forward to, whether that be it being a Friday or happy that it’s a study hall day so classes are slightly shorter. Usually they’re pretty insignificant things, but when it’s like mid-February and I’m running low on energy and happiness it works.

This thread is depressing me.

Trips with my church or the school are usually what keep me motivated, as well all major breaks. When I’m insanely stressed out, I just repeat the mantra that in ten years, this insignificant essay will have completely escaped my memory or something along those lines.

I give myself a time limit. After 2 days of intensively doing this project, I’m completely done. After one week of catching up with all my school work, I’ll finally have some free time. I get a sense of reassurance knowing that my work won’t last forever.

Find something personal to do everyday to break the days/work/stress/drama up.

I live near some gorgeous park. I started getting up early over the summer to run along this canal and river and a little bit through the woods right after the sun comes up.

I will continue when school starts.

It’s gorgeous and I feel like I’m on top of the world. A whiff of those sweet honeysuckles on a morning jog. It’s just euphoric. I run track too so I’m used to running.

Beyond that. Thinking about college excites me- I’m a senior and my friends and activities and things I love like reading and working out keep me afloat.

playing cello recklessly for a few minutes and running.

Being the very best.

@NiteLite - You sound like the physical embodiment of College Confidential, LOL.

Long purpose-defeating walks to ice cream stores.

Knowing that if I work hard, I can get out of high school and go to a good school  seriously, my motivation to get out of high school was basically everything junior year.

@preamble1776 you really need to take a chill pill.

Thinking about my goals for the future usually helps. For example, I really really want/need to get a 4.0 this year, so when I’m working on math homework, I think about how slacking won’t help me reach that goal. Plus, I run track and XC, and having practice after school gives me a little break as opposed to going home right after school.

Well. The fact I want to make my family proud keeps me going. I want to be successful. I want to keep progressing. I don’t want to be a failure. I want to be proud of myself down the road. All of this keeps me going.

I never really understood why people get stressed out. If you know you’re going to do the work and do it well, what are you stressing out for? If you know you’re going to fail miserably, stressing won’t make you fail any less miserably.

People here like to whine a lot.

Telling myself if I finish my homework/studying I can play video games all day.

Well, I’m a Christian, so I’d say God. But another big motivator for me to do well in classes is the vision of myself at my dream college. However, sometimes, it’s just an internal thing. Like with a big project, it’s never been an option for me, personally, not to do it, so I just do it.
