What kind of aid did Syracuse give you?

I am curious what kind of aid Syracuse gives out and how much? The price tag is pretty high so I am trying to figure out if the school can even come down to my price range ($30K a year if that is even reasonable). It would most likely have to be merit based aid since the income of two (divorced) parents is over $200K a year. Thanks!

Run the Net Price Calculator.

Syracuse does not “meet need” and in order to get significant merit you need to be among their top applicants (look at what their top 10% look like - typically they’ll show what top 25% means for their applicant pool, you can infer how much higher you need to be).

Thanks! The problem with the net price calculator is I need to fill in my ex’s income, value of his house, etc, etc. I don’t know these things and he won’t share them with me. And it asks questions like how much is the price of your parent’s home (well, there isn’t one since we are divorced so which one do I plug in?). I was hoping to get a feel for how much aid students are currently getting to calculate.

Is this is a trick question? Haha! Syracuse in recent years has become very tight-fisted with merit awards. We specifically told our son that unless he was offered reasonable merit aid, it was off the table, as I didn’t feel it was worth full price. No merit was offered. He had a 34 ACT and a 92 GPA. Not stellar, of course, but several years back, that possibly would have got him something.

My son was offered something, I was actually surprised (3.6 UGPA, 30 act), but that didn’t touch the tuition (I didn’t know he even applied, he obviously wasn’t going to go).

My daughter (4.2 GPA, 35 ACT) was offered 28K merit and Syracuse stacked it on top of the granted Tuition Exchange award ($39K) she qualified for through her mother’s employment. It ended up covering full tuition. She decided that Syracuse was not the right school for her though.

My daughter is in the same boat grades-wise as you Mjkacmom. Her SAT is only 1100 though. Which is only average. She’s got a decent chance of getting accepted according to acceptance calculators, but her dad, my ex, wants me to commit to paying half if she gets accepted, no matter what the cost.

But I’m on a budget. I’m just trying to get a feel for if this school is even going to be a possibility. Do they often award aid to get down to my maximum I can pay which is about $20K a year for my half (so can Syracuse get under $40K). I doubt it and I just want to manage expectations for him (as well as our daughter).

To get merit, you need to find schools where your student would be one of the top students applying. My daughter attends OOS UD for around $35,000, because she had a 3.9 uwgpa and 34 act, her younger received similar offers from similarly ranked schools with her 33 act (both got in most honors programs). Both of my sons with similar stats as each other really had no choice but instate public (even if they received merit it was still much more than instate, and I didn’t trust them not to go below a certain GPA and lose the scholarship).
