Today was my first senior day and at registration I was registered for
Ap Eng, Ap calc AB, Ap chem, H Spanish, Ap gov, H medical bio

But today school told me all the classes can't be together because of the schedule
so I have to choose which one is better for college here's two option:

Ap Eng
AP calc AB
AP chem (2hr)
H Spanish
Gov (regular only 1sem)/SH
H medical bio (2hr)

2.Ap eng
ap calc BC(harder)
ap chem
H spanish
Ap gov (1sem) /SH
Anatomy (1hr, not honor)
1 free hour (plan to put something or nothing at all)

medical bio and anatomy is pretty much same class except medical bio is honor+2hr.
my counselor suggested 1st because I am going into medical area and more science is better for me
what do you guys think? which will be better transcript for biology student?

I think your second list would look stronger to an admission counselor. Plus, you’re not going to get any college credit for your anatomy/biology class, anyway, so why not take the more rigorous schedule?

first of all I’m not very smart student who looks for top college
I have to say 2nd is harder but if i think about next few months, I will be busy with college applications, and I also do swimming (takes up 4-5hours a day).
Don’t you think it would be wise to take 1st option to make everything done little easier to have more time to prepare for college application than trying rigorous and get Bs and less preparation for college app??

Follow your counselor’s advice, and take the first schedule. Your counselor has lots of experience helping students like you find colleges that are good choices. Calc AB will get you ready for the calculus you will need to take in college, and the Honors Govt. class is the only one you need to take in order to graduate from HS.

Frankly, the only people who take Government in college (which is what AP Govt is designed to replace) are those who major in Political Science. You are smart to leave space in your schedule for swimming. Don’t over-fill your schedule. You need to remember to have a life.

I agree with happymomof1 (as usual!) I don’t think it matters a whole lot to begin with - both schedules are relatively rigorous, as you’ll be taking between 3 AP classes and 2 honors classes with the first schedule. HM1 is also right about government - I took AP government in high school and I really enjoyed it, but I didn’t need it in the long run. It was just useful for me because I’m really, really interested in politics (plus I thought I was majoring in political science, and I didn’t).

At my school you couldn’t take calc BC until you took AB; AB is impressive enough on it’s own (the majority of high school students don’t take calculus - I had taken more math in high school than my friend who was a math major). And I don’t know if there’s a really big difference between medical biology and anatomy.

That, plus the fact that you’re not looking to get into the very very top colleges, makes me think your first schedule is fine.

I asked bunch of science teacher for advice and one common thing they have said was
colleges will recognize anatomy, but they won’t know what H medical bio is about on the transcript. so for college transcript, 2nd is definately better.
And teachers told me I will learn the same thing in anatomy or medical bio so why not take anatomy and take AP gov. Although medical bio is honor, the class reputation wasn’t that great in our school plus I know anatomy teacher very well (was AP bio teacher for junior and I liked how he taught his class)
another thing about medical bio is this class goes field trip to variety of medical offices every other week (just field trip, not research or shadowing)
I know 2nd one will be harder, but I will get 1 period early release so it kinda balances out
my counselor was reluctant to make choice for me but suggested 1st,
2 teacher was unsure, 1 teacher told me to take 2nd
I know it is my choice but can you guys give me more advice?

Do what you’d like to do. If you think Honors Medical Biology is an obscure class (it may be unusual, but I doubt colleges won’t understand what the content is), then ask your counselor to explain it briefly in your application.

I still stand by my opinion that schedule #2 looks better from a college admission counselor’s standpoint, but as the earlier members commented, it won’t make a significant difference unless you’re planning on applying to the top of the top of the top.

colleges that I’m planning to apply are

U of Michigan, UNC-CH as reach
U of washington,UIUC, Madison, few LACs like Macalester
are these colleges considered top schools that my schedule change might affect the acceptance rate?

Either schedule would be fine for any of these places.

Where is your safety school? Will you need financial aid? Are you swimming well enough to get some scholarship money for that?

I know that you are obsessing about your schedule right now, but truly it is not nearly as problematic as you think it is. If you really like the Anatomy teacher, you may want to go with that schedule just for that reason.

Wishing you all the best.

I would say that for those colleges, taking schedule #1 and performing well would not make you any less likely to gain admission than other typical applicants, but perhaps taking schedule #2 and performing well might make you slightly more likely to gain admission.

I’m definately going to need scholarships
I’m also not a great swimmer but I became the captain this year and I just want to work harder not to let team down

my safety include UNL,Creighton, Minnesota-twin

well, thanks for the advices. I think I will go with 2nd because I want to challenge myself rather than staying safe
