what kind of clothes should you wear to college parties?

Say...if you're going to a party...whether it's a frat/keg/basement/whatever what kind of clothes do college girls typically wear? My idea would probably be a dressy top/tank top with skinny jeans and an amazing pair of high heels...Is it something in between casual and dressy? Any tips, advice on what to wear and what not to wear to college parties?

well, it obviously depends on the party. costume/toga parties are fairly self-explanatory. But in general, short skirt, skimpy top.

Depends on the party and the theme.

But if you dont wanna risk it just go naked. You cant go wrong…

^ of course…but I’d probably get thrown out of the party  Birthday suits aren’t my style anyway so…

I do my best to stay away from heels… after I’ve been out for a while, it’s just not a good idea to be balancing my entire body on dime sized stiletto. In the summer/early fall and spring, I wear skinny jeans or a skirt, a cute tank, and sandals. In winter I go for jeans and boots, with a shirt and a wrap, but I don’t go out very often in winter.

High heels are a good idea so maybe you’ll escape the swimming pool of beer underneath your feet.

My standby is black skinny jeans and a cute top. I don’t like heels and my boots aren’t cute so I generally rock the Converse for shoes. It’s more comfortable and I kind of like the look, slightly butchy. Most girls do wear heels though.

Wear whatever you want, it really doesn’t matter.

I wear cute flats and a tight dress. I add tights and a jacket if it’s cold out.

The higher the heels, the shorter the skirt;)

but nah, keep it tastefully skanky.

Everyone will be too drunk to care.

Girls don’t wear jeans to parties; wear a short skirt, nice top, and heels.

^Forreal, there has never once been a girl who has worn jeans to a party. Sheesh.

^exactly, unless you go to a community college or something.

^haha I hate showing my legs:/ but I think leggings + skirts are cute…I coould totally work that!

It really depends on the vibe of the party/where you live/type of university you go to. I go to a school in the south, and for sorority girls, if it’s out to bars–black bandage skirts and a flowy top, jeans and boots and a cute top, or a dress, and so on. You don’t see that many girls wearing heels because we ALL know drunk or walking long distances in those suckers will kill you. If you’re not the sorority type, you are most likely still following that trend, but most people keep it fancy up top, not bottom, unless you’re feeling dressy.
Frat parties, same attire, unless it’s themed. Mostly dresses or skirts, not that many people wear heels, especially if there’s dancing. Smart.
And if you’re going to a house party, muuuch more casual here. Combat boots and calf length boots are cute and comfy, just wear a cute top and put on some makeup! Really, anything you feel confident in, you’ll be good.

I get a lot of ideas/advice from polyvore.com too.

hah I love not having to worry about this thanks to my gender

It really depends on the campus culture. Some girls have to cake on the pounds of makeup and squeeze into dresses and heels every weekend…some places are still embracing grunge and “dressy” is your flannel shirt with pink in it. Don’t go nuts buying a lot of clothes before college if you’re unsure, just wait till you get there. If you’re in a dorm you can always borrow stuff from other girls (thing that I REALLY miss :frowning: ).
