What kind of colleges can I get into with a 3.4 gpa?

Sophemore. Anyone know what colleges a 3.3-3.5 gpa student can get into?

Was this a trick question?

There are a couple thousand such schools. Ask a better question.

Sophomore has three o’s in it.

Not a trick question. Can you give a few examples of possible state schools that I have a chance at?

Almost all of them. Are you interested in any in particular?

What is wrong with state schools? How much can you afford without financial aid? Do you need financial aid?
What are your SATs/ACTs? Where do you live (state)? What is your intended major?

If you want any decent answers, you have to give people something to work with.

That’s better but no good enough.

Most of the state schools will consider a 3.4. There is much more besides grades for the schools to consider, and much much more for YOU to consider about the schools.

Take a look at the chance forum. Note what info OPs offer and posters ask for before they chance someone. Give us some information about you and your academic profile. Help us to narrow down the kinds of places you’d think you’d like to attend.

Rough idea (bearing in mind everything posted above):

3.3-3.5, with commensurate test scores and a couple ECs, would be good enough for most colleges outside the US News top 100 or so (top 50 LACs + top 50 or 60 national universities) . With high test scores and better ECs in a demanding program at a competitive HS, it could be good enough for some LACs in the US News 21-50 range or national universities in a slightly less selective range. It all depends on a bunch of factors (like class rank) that may not completely fall into place until late in your Junior year.

Chances are, your baseline will be directional state universities in your home state (unless your family is affluent enough to consider private or OOS public schools that don’t nearly cover full financial need). Most students go to college within a couple hundred miles of home. Most students go to public colleges with favorable prices for state residents. Most students who apply to college do not have GPAs much better than yours.

^^ to put tk21769’s post in perspective, if you look at universities and LACS ranked between 51 -150 using the US News rankings system, you’re still looking at the top ten percent of the 3000+ colleges/universities in the US. So, even if a school is ranked #125, it’s going to be a good school. Take a look at Colleges That Change Lives. These are good LACs that take B/B+ students - with a 3.4, you’re right there in the mix.

Joblue, financials isn’t that important. I haven’t taken the SAT yet. Looking to probably go into business. Live in Rhode Island. I go to a small private school.

I’m thinking about schools like Penn state, UNC, UVirginia, Pitt, Uconn etc

It depends on the type of school you came from. I have a 3.37 and I got accepted into GaTech for ChemE and UIUC for EE (no special ECs, 2210 SAT, 34 ACT). So you should aim it relative to how people from your school have been accepted.
