i just want to know the general GPA of someone getting into yale from a public or private high school...

3.8-4.0 UW, I'd say, although there will surely be people with lower GPAs. Depends on the difficulty of classes and your class rank. I was accepted with a 3.93 UW and was 1st in my public HS class.

what exactly is a 3.8 percentage wise?

it depends on the school.

Ur GPA itself does not matter much- it's more the DIFFICULTY of the classes you took (AP's IB's vs... normal classes) and how you fared relative to those in your school who took the most difficult classes as well.

Yeah, i really think it varies based on school/curriculum.

For example, i have a 99.6, but it's not that impressive bc at my school at least 10 people have 99+ averages. If that sort of a GPA made you valedictorian, it would be more impressive.

Check admitted students' posts.

So one or two Bs through high school will not be looked down upon assuming you took the TOUGHEST courseload possible???

What about if it is during your important junior and sophomore years?

I had 3 B's my junior year but all A's otherwise.

No B's - ever in school.
GPA - 4.0 unweighted, 4.6 weighted, 101.5 actual and written by GC on rec.
2280 SAT, 800, 770, 770 on SATII
11 AP's, 1 soph, 5 Junior, 5 senior (3-5's, 3-4's)
NMSF
Single actual Valedictorian of 400
result = deferred

close friend from neighboring school:
same profile but 2400 on SATI and 2400 on 3SATII
1 out of 660
result = deferred from Harvard

guess we're just a couple of country bumpkins - down south.

Ahhh, who knows, really? I have a 4.79 UW (one A- in an AP class in my entire high school career, the rest regular As), and I got deferred. Really, it's all ultimately a crapshoot at a certain level.
