What kind of major / career should I be looking at?

I've already applied to a few schools in a couple areas, but I'm still not 100% that I've found something I want to do. Some of my interests:

* Building stuff
* Business / entrepreneurship (meaning, not big biz or finance, but running companies)
* Cooking / food
* Video games / new forms of entertainment
* Gadgets
* Cities

So far, I've applied to Pitt undecided (accepted), & Arizona State (accepted), University of Cincinnati(waiting for answer), and Virginia Tech (also waiting), all for industrial/product design.

I've also applied to U of Southern Cal for video games / interactive media, but I doubt I'll get in there.

Anyway, any career / school ideas?

Architecture,Urban Planning and *Graphic design are things that you may be interested in. I’m interested in Industrial design also and have applied to Virginia Tech.

If you get the chance please chance me:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/620059-chance-average-student.html

I’ve always said there are different types of competencies:

Building things. (engineer, architect, land developer)
Maintaining things. (custodian, caretaker, house-sitter)
Destroying things (demolitions expert, sabateur)
Orgainizing things. (warehouse manager, )
Speeding things up. (efficiency expert, fast food manager)
Making people happy. (entertainer, nurse, exotic dancer)
Making people sad. (soap opera writer)
Making things pretty. (artist, landscaper, interior decorator, architect)
Improving things. (teacher)

If you’re particularly good at one of these, there is a major or job for you.

Tourguide, which college would you recommend for exotic dancing? I hear BYU has a top notch program.

Northeastern

Saveonundergrad: Darrel Dawkins said he travelled all over the country while in the NBA, but the freakiest groupies were always in Salt Lake City.

Get a major in something and wing it. I know a lot of people who did that and it came out okay. Civil Engineering and Urban Planning maybe? Urban history?

If you want a degree in exotic dancing, the School of Hard Knocks has the best program.

Exotic Dancing: UNLV, U of Nevada-Reno, McGill, U of Toronto, Emerson, Wayne State U., U of Hawaii.

I’ve heard the video game industry pays miserably and is super competitive compared to “regular” computer programming (like making the latest spreadsheet application.) Everyone wants to be in video games, so the industry can afford to pay them less and still have interested applicants.

Also, keep in mind that you’re just as likely to end up programming “Barbie Glittery Glam Adventures” as you are a “cool” video game.
