I'm considering this school right now, but I haven't visited (yet) or received any mail from them. What are the students, social scene, the people like?

I'm currently a student at Occidental College.

The average Oxy student is bright, intellectual, and left-wing. The social scene is very energetic and open to new people, and friendly to diversity. People here tend to be outgoing and socially conscious, though there are some quieter people as well. People here are friendly and know how to have fun, but also how to work hard. A lot of people come from around California, I don't think it's super diverse geographically. Admissions are easier for men than for women because substantially more women apply. The campus itself is incredibly beautiful, but hilly, so make sure you're okay going up and down lots of hills and stairs. Also, we're very close to downtown Los Angeles, and if you have a car, it's pretty easy to go exploring.

Actually, this is our geographical distribution:

Geographic Distribution
California 39%
Other Western States 29%
Northeast 17%
Southwest 5%
Midwest 5%
South 2%
International 3%

So we aren't mostly California, I feel like although I do meet alot of Californians I also meet tons of out of state (or country!) people. It's better than the geographical diversity of most state schools. Otherwise I agree with alot of what voxthunder said, especially the part about being open to new people, thats mainly why I chose to attend Oxy. Good to see another Oxy student on the boards...although it does feel kinda weird cause I probably know you, lol.
