I've always been curious, what kind of stuff do they ask?

The most important one is probably, “Why do you want to go to this school?”
I’ve also been asked what my ECs were, and what other colleges I was applying to.

For the Common App, you choose one of the following [prompts](https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/1694/2014-15-Common-Application-Essay-Prompts):

I know. The Common App had a “topic of your choice” prompt until last year. :-<

I actually don’t think the common app topics are that bad. I have already written an essay for 4/5 topics, all I have to do now is pick my favorite and revise it in time for app season this fall.
