What kind of school should I go to?

I'm a senior in high school. I will be applying to colleges and what not soon. However, I'm worried about the expenses and even my future financial situation. I plan to go in to the medical school after college. So this means alot of schooling, but that means I will be going to the graduate school and my degree will have this school instead of my undergrad.
My question is whether I should even bother going to a higher tier school if that is the case. Maybe just a state school? Will going to a top tier school be worth it? Look better to admission officers? However, I even took into consideration that going to a mid tier school make it easier to get higher grades.... What are your thoughts on all of this?

Mid tier then top tier? (Less money)

or

Top tier then top tier (hopefully ivy by then, but a crapload of money?)

Apply to several different places, see where you get in, check out their financial packages, then make this decision. It’s not worth it trying to make this decision this early.

Your best financial options are likely to be farther from home due to geographical diversity. And remember, not all colleges offer merit aid. Since my middle son is also planning on med school we’ve opted to axe all non-merit aid schools (including Ivies, but others too) to save more money for med school. He still has top tier options. The only state schools we are considering are those well-known for pre-med. We’re planning on choosing the least expensive best option he has - meaning we will be weighing the financial package and prestige/opportunities at the schools carefully once we see what those are.

We visited a top 15 med school and were told by a person on their admissions committee that they do, indeed, consider the undergrad school someone comes from. However, it’s not just one or two schools on that list - there are several to choose from. She didn’t let us see the list, but did say that lower level schools do not make it on. If you don’t want a top 15 med school you have more options as different med schools have different criteria.

I’m from long island, ny. would that help?

But thank you! I appreciate the advise :)

What are your stats? (ACT/SAT, etc)
