my gpa is pretty good, but my application essays are weak.

You better have a 2300+ to counteract weak essays. There's nothing that can really counter them; you have to realize JHU gets a lot of applicants with perfect "numbers" AND good essays.

If you're going to make any one essay stand out, let it be the $10 essay. I'm told they look for creativity in that one.

why not just rewrite your essays....friend?

hire someone to help you write those essays. Or, get help from family and friends.

i have a 2300 now. i got lucky on the dec 3 test

essays are especially important to schools like JHU. If you have incredible test scores, outstanding GPA, and unique EC's... and your essays are weak, that comes off as them thinking JHU is a safety for you and you really wanna be at an ivy or stanford or something, so they may reject you for a student with inferior stats but devotion to JHU who will come if accepted. Even if you wanna get in a better school... your essays are key to top but not premier schools like JHU, Cornell, Northwestern, etc etc.

would it look bad to only do the $10 essay and not the "favorite course" essay, because I'm not sure what I would say for the latter.

eh i did both... and it's just asking which class you like best and what it did for you...

i thihnk my fav class is very strong.

just my $10 one is too normal

i really don't think you all read old posts -- there have been a number of questions about should you write one, both, or none of the JHU essays....let me say it one last time....

If applying Common App. you don't have to write any of the JHU essays. HOWEVER YOU SHOULD!!!

The adcoms highly HIGHLY recommend you write both JHU essays in addition or in lieu of the common app. essay. You can take the chance and not write them, but i know when something as crucial as applying to a college and someone highly recommends something to me -- I DO IT.

psssst ^ that means do it
