What kinds of schools should I apply to?

Hi I'm a junior
I go to a competitive private school in nj
(I'm taking the SATs in January, but my PSAT score was in the mid 230's so I'm predicting this)
SAT: 2200-2300
SAT II: chem, 760
I have around an A- average, not the most stellar student
GPA: ~3.5 UW
AP's: psych, bc calc, english, us history

I have like zero EC's though.. Which is a huge problem.
I've practiced taekwondo for about 6 years, I have my black belt, and im an instructor at my dojo
I've played jv tennis for 3 years and will probably play varsity for my last

Over the summer I went to an international, 6 week, leadership camp tha extends a full scholarship to the 60 girls it admits..

I'm in the multicultural club?

This summer I'm applying for tasp, but more likely than not I won't make it, I'll be shadowing a family friend that works at the UN

And I volunteer around my town at the events our township holds, and I plan to start volunteering at our local farm that cultivates food to donate to the hungry
... That's about it :/

What kind of schools should I apply to?
Brown is my dream school, but I understand that's a really high reach, I also like Williams, JHU, Wellsley, and Emory.. But again, Im in love with all these toptoptop schools, Rutgers is my safety state school, what schools would be matches or low reaches for me, and if you know some schools that I might be able to get some credit from.. That'd be awesome too!

Thank you so much for the help!

I’m just going to be honest and say you aren’t going to be eligible for any top 25 schools because of your GPA. I would look at U Chicago because grades are just “important” to them.

I’d say take a shot at Emory and Wellesley. If you like Wellesley, then maybe Mount Holyoke or Smith are schools you should consider as well.

Crap, I dunno if I can bring my gpa up, because I’m not the best student and the classes I take are the most rigorous and definitely pretty challenging for me… Okay thanks for the advice wallrus  I’ll definitely consider uchicago then c:

Thank you intparent, I’d really like to go to either of those schools, and I’ll take a look at the other schools you suggested too (:

I agree with walrus75, you should definitely look at Uchicago. If I were you I would also look at several really good state schools such as U Michigan, U of Washington(Seattle), U of Wisconsin Madison, etc. as you decent chances for them.

But definitely apply to your reaches and dream schools. It’s worth a shot.

U Chicago is essay-heavy; beware the exotic prompts…

and thank you for the advice zambez, my mom actually went to umichigan, just never got too attached to the school, but i’ll look into it some more

ahaha so where is waldo, really? right? :stuck_out_tongue: I love quirky schools  thanks for the warning catria

Tufts is extremely quirky.

Lets see… 3.5 GPA and 2200-2300 SAT! Hmmmm…I would say University of Miami, Florida State University, University of Wisconsin, maybe University of Michigan and NYU but I’m not sure! Those are just a few choices!

I think 3.5 is pretty low for U of Chicago. My kid just got in EA with a 3.7, but she had fantastic test scores and the kind of intellectual profile that U of C likes even in these days of pre-professionalism. I have not seen any lower GPAs on the accepted threads unless the person had a hook… and I believe the OP is not hooked. Just saying, consider carefully before using one of your reaches on them unless you really can’t live without them. And Catria is right about the “exotic” essay prompts – gave my kid fits. :)
