I'm not sure what language I want to take in college. Part of me wants to continue with Spanish because I've taken it since middle school. However, part of me wants to take Latin because it might help. I don't know; hopefully I'll figure it out. What languages are you thinking of taking?

I am going to continue with Spanish since I would love to study abroad in Mexico or Argentina. I would also love to start learning an Asian language though such as Japanese or Korean.

I’ll be taking Portuguese. I already speak Spanish, so I’d definitely like to try something new! Also, I love both Brazilian and Portuguese cultures c:

I took the same language I did in High School (French). I’ll probably never regret it b/c it helped my gpa a ton (you’ll find a lot of your language classes will be review if you took up to level 4/5 in HS or AP).

I took some German, and I’m starting with Latin in the fall.

I’m taking Chinese, OP what is your major?

None!! Not required at my school.

I’m taking Spanish. I took one semester of it in high school, but that was like 8 years ago now. I took several years off between high school and college. Now I’m in a CC, and I plan to transfer to UIUC. They have a campus wide 2 year foreign language requirement at UIUC, but I’m going to try to get it done at CC before transferring. I wanted to take French, but if I want to complete it here, I have to start it this coming semester, and none of the French classes would work with the rest of my schedule unfortunately, so I’m taking Spanish instead.

It should be cool. I’m looking forward to learning another language. On top of that though, I’m also taking General Physics I, Calculus I, General Chemistry I, and Intro to Anthropology this coming semester(for a total of 21 credits), so I’m going to be busy.

I took Spanish throughout high school and placed out of all language requirements at orientation because of it. Still, I took German all three quarters of freshman year for fun. I really want to learn Russian at some point, and I would have taken it instead of German if there had been openings. I’m glad I learned German though; it’s a cool language.

I took French in HS and continued with it in college

None. My major exempts me from having to take a foreign languge, however I must have some cultural experience since I’m in the honors college. I don’t have room for a foreign languge so I am studying abroad for a semester.

@dedadelussayhi (sorry if I misspelled it)

I’m going to major in either bio or human health. I might possibly double major with one of those and business but I’m not completely sure yet.

I’m starting with Japanese in the Fall. I will look to minoring in it as well, should my schedule allow for it.

German. I’ve always wanted to learn it, but skipped out on taking it in high school because I hated language classes in high school where most kids only took them because they were required to. So I knew there would have been stupid guys in class trying to ruin the learning experience for me.

I think it is really useful to continue the language you learned in high school.
In high school, you think you know a language really well and then you get to college and realize there is still a lot to learn. In retrospect, I didn’t really learn as much as I thought from years of high school French.

Mostly importantly though, it helps with fluency and opens up some opportunities abroad. The way classes are set up at my school (5 credits and usually M-F), you really start to become extremely proficient.

Luckily my major doesn’t require any languages, so none. But if it was a requirement then I would have picked French. I studied it in middle school a few years back and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately when I went to HS, they didn’t have French, so I was stuck with Spanish the whole time.

I’m taking spanish!! I began taking formal classes in the 7th grade, and decided to continue. I’m minoring in it because I would love to be fluent. I would also like to take a second foreign language, maybe Arabic, but I guess I’ll see!

I took Chinese because I am Chinese but would like to learn how to speak it better and more grammatically correct. I also learned how to read/write.

I’d choose a language that goes with your major if possible. For me, it was advertising/PR/marketing and Chinese [because China is a growing market and I am a native speaker so I feel that gives me an advantage].

I’ll be taking either French or Latin.

Rolando, I’m taking Portuguese too!

As you can tell, I’m taking Portuguese, mostly because I’m half Brazilian, and want to learn the language so I can go visit.
