What language should I take next year?

"It’s quite easy to take intensive language courses in the summer so I wouldn’t stress too much about the language thing. Learning a new one is very doable on “short notice.”

dude, no it’s not. i tried REALLY HARD to find the funding for a summer language program and couldn’t even afford to take a non-intensive one at some community college, between tuition (which, as a visiting student, you can’t get fin aid for), housing, food, etc. everything was at LEAST $6000.

i would definitely second the suggestion of german or french if you intend to do grad school.

Spanish.
It has to be the most useful second language you could know in our country. It would be a benefit to you in almost any job that involves working with people. It would make you a more attractive candidate for almost any job, especially if you really are interested in teaching given the growing population of Spanish-speaking students.

Mandarin will be the most useful language in the near future. A TON of business is being done in China and you could land an amazing job.
