I want to take a few classes in a language but I can't decide which one.

Spanish
*already took some Spanish in high school. Not fluent at all, but I know enough to do well in Spanish 101
*would probably be a useful language to know
*it's supposed to be pretty easy at my school

Italian
*for an engineering project I am involved in, we are partnering with a university in Rome, so it would be good to be able to speak Italian
*no experience in Italian, never considered it until now
*I have some friends taking Italian 101 next semester, so I would have people to study or do homework with

German
*I have more interest in this language than the other two, but not really any use for it
*no experience in German, but my roommate is fluent and could probably help me if I needed it
*I have a friend that lives in Germany, so it would be cool to be able to speak German.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If you’ve already taken Spanish, that would help with Italian. I’m taking German right now and finding it really easy (although that’s probably just because it’s level I) since it’s so similar to English.

If you think that Italian would be most useful in your career, then that would be an excellent choice.

My university also has an exchange student partnership with another university in italy, so i guess that would be good too. im not entirely sure how useful of a language it would be after college…

Italian is plenty useful. It’s not Spanish or Chinese, but it’s still a great language to know.

Anyway, you’d probably benefit the most from taking Spanish, IMO, just because you took some in high school. You could get to a reasonable level of fluency in Spanish much quicker than you can in the other two.

Thanks for both of your responses! Anyone else?

The one you are most interested in. It will suck if you pick one you won’t enjoy learning.
