If your also concerned with memory and don’t want the small hassle that comes along with an external hard drive, you can always upgrade. But internal memory, go to a store that deals with laptops, and have this put it in. Even if it sounds a bit easy, never do it by yourself.

^ Why not??

^ It’s a really bad idea to do-it-yourself with laptops. All the parts are packed together tightly and overheating is an issue. Lots of people build their own desktops, but laptop building is best left to the pros.

Macs are nice but overpriced.

Asus is always a good bet on a budget

I’ll be buying a MBP after the January refresh which will hopefully include quad core processors and a video card that isn’t a piece of junk. But if neither of those two happen, probably a Thinkpad. Those things are tanks

Except that replacing memory is incredibly simple. Paying someone else to do it is just a waste.

For all those who think Macs are cool but are more comfortable with Windows, you can always use BootCamp to give your Mac Windows. A lot of people prefer it to Snow Leopard OS. Its a simple process too.

That sounds … utterly pointless.

If you buy Macs because they look cool but still want to use Windows, you’re fake.

I have HP :]
It cost about $600 and is worth every penny.
Window 7 is lovely.

In response to pyroza’s comment: Oh heck yes! Thinkpad is awesome. It is quiet and runs smoothly, but it’s a little on the heavy side.

Yeah, it is a bit fake but its an option. You can also get VMFusionware or Parallels to run them both at the same time. I prefer Mac OS better but for many people Windows is better for things like gaming…and other things I can’t really think of.

I already have a good laptop.
Respect++

I would look at some of the 16 inch HP laptops with the Intel Core i7m quad core processors. They are the fastest you can get within reason, and also have Nvidia dedicated graphics. You can find them for under a thousand dollars, or more if you want blu-ray. If weight is an issue, the Acer Aspire Timeline 14 inch notebooks look like good deals.
