What Laptop Should I Buy?

Hey guys,

I live in Dubai (Alexandre is my local advisor), and am planning on majoring with Mechanical Engineering. I have tried to get some information regarding what sort of laptop I should buy, in terms of Mac or PC, and so far haven't found a great deal of success.

I am well versed in both forms of laptop, and am comfortable enough with both of them. I personally prefer Macs, but I don't know whether the kind of software I would use in Mechanical Engineering would have Mac versions availible from the university.

Any ME students around who can help me out? Anyone at all with any advice on this matter? It's kind of urgent, my dad is in the States now and can get it for me, but I need this info ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

Tom Brady owns.

Come on people. Give my boy Avinash some valuable advice.

Avinish, you may also want to post your question on the sub-forum below. In the "College Major" section, you have an entire sub-forum dedicated to Engineers and students there can also give you valuable insight.

Yo, Nirvana, did you hear that? Tom Brady owns! LOL I agree with you Avinash...Tom is the best QB in the League, but Nirvana is an Indiana native, so he is honor-bound to defend the whiner goldenboy (Manning).

Ah, but Nirvana obviously forgot who won the Superbowl two years consecutively, and became the youngest player in the history of the NFL to hold two Superbowl rings.

Plus, he made that absolutely unbelievable 98 yard play in the 2004 Superbowl finals which was possibly one of the coolest things I've seen in sports.

Manning. Bah.

Avinash, Tom has won three Super Bowls...this year was his third Super Bowl ring. He has the best winning record in NFL history and he is also unbeaten in overtime or when his team is trailing and he is given the ball with less than 3 minutes left to the game.

Even back in his Michigan days, Tom Brady was known as the comeback kid! He lost his first two games as starter, but then, he went on to win 20 of his next 23 games, including one of the most amazing Bowl games ever (the 2000 Orange Bowl).

But we now have a Quarterback at Michigan who is also amazing. His name is Chad Henne. He came from High school last year and our intended starting QB went down with an injury with less than a month before the season began. Well, Chad Henne was forced into the starting role immediately and he led the team to a 10-2 regular season and a share of the Big 10 title!

OK Let's get one thing straight. Tom Brady is okay at best. He is no where near as talented as Peyton Manning. Now, Peyton has amazing statistics partially because he is surrounded by the best core of recievers in the NFL-and he admits this fact also and gives most of the credit to them, but he can read defensive formations and make plays like no other qb in nfl history. If Brady were surrounded by Harrison, Wayne, and Stokeley, he would have pretty good stats, but still not as good as Peyton. Brady is successful because he is 1) surrounded by a decent core of receivers, 2) has an amazing offensive line, 3) has the best coaching staff in the NFL. I hate to admit it, but Bellichek is a football mastermind and is without a doubt the best coach in the NFL. He makes the plays, and any qb would be good under him, even navarre Charlie Weis is an excellent offesnive coordinator, but his departure for Notre Dame, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's departure for the Browns, and the loss of key players like teddy bruschi and ty law will weaken the pats significantly. The colts have a newly structured defense, including CB extraordinare Marlin Jackson. Anyway, to avinash, buy a Mac. I have a powerbook g4, and it is amazing. I think the g5 is coming out soon, but it is definitely worth the price. Michigan's bookstore sells all software in both mac and pc format. If you have an ipod, you don't need to buy it-you can just copy it from a school computer, and upload it onto your own.

Dude screw Tom Brady...thats the 1 thing I am ashamed of Michigan lol

yeah for real-pretty boys like that belong at usc and florida state

See Avinash, all we had to do to draw Nirvana into the conversation was talk about Brady! LOL That guy is a riot!

Umardarr, remember, you are a Wolverine now! I understand how you had to say negative things about Brady in the past...but you are one of US now!!!hehe

Nirvana, are you in Engineering? Have Engineering students told you that the Macs are also convenient for Engineering and applicable/compatible with whatever Engineering requires?

I am not in engineering, but alot of my friends are, and all software you need on your computer is available in mac-the main one being matlab (maple-used for calc 3 and 4-is also).

alexandre, ru a rock star in ur home country, btw, if u don't mind me asking, where exactly is the UAE located, like S of Saudi Arabia, West of Lebanon, i mean, wat's the deal Sir Alexandre.

its like right by S Arabia on the east coast right? under kuwait...i think im right

"Rock star"? "Sir Alexandre"? LOL Not quite. First of all, this isn't my country. I am Lebanese, I merely grew up and now work in the UAE. And the UAE is located on the Persian/Arabia Gulf, in the Southeastern corner of the Arabian Penninsula (Southeast of Saudi Arabia), right under Qatar and accross the gulf from Iran.

Qutar thats it! kept confusing the place with Kuwait

WOW, so we are talking about HOT temperatures right man.

it was 99 today in indianapolis...

highest its been in toledo is 94, average around 87 tho

99? 94? Wimps!!! LOL Here, the highs range anywhere from 105-115 daily from June through August. May and September are over 100 too. And the humidity is horrendous (at least 65%...often over 90%)!

Haha, what a change from AA!

Tell me about it. Actually, just the other day, I was noting how I have seen wind chill factors of -40 and head index temps in the +130 range...all within a 6 month period! LOL
