What Laptop to buy

We want to buy a laptop for my son for school. He wants an Apple-my husband insists on a Dell. What is better for Denison?? He is used to both, he has a IBM PC at home and at high school he used an Apple. We figured that a Dell is more comaptible at school and on the job??? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks :)

My son says it doesn't really matter.

He has a Dell. I think on the Denison web site someplace is the "suggested" laptop - and as I recall it is a Dell. Try to find that - it will give you the specs.

Be sure if you get the Dell to buy the super-size warranty/tech support coverage. My son has broken his twice (!). The first time the tech support guys at school fixed it with the replacement part that Dell sent. (That was some problem with the keyboard.) The second time a Dell technician came out to our house to fix it - and he showed up the very next day after we called. (Son broke the screen on the airplane on the way home for Xmas.)

If you have any other questions post again.

Thanks.

Try this page on their site:

Thanks again for you help!! Just purchased a dell today!!!! :) Pretty good deal through their website too!!!

kmh--
We also got a Dell. DD's grandfather got it for her for graduation. We have had 2 Dell laptops (along with a Toshiba and some other kind) and I 2nd the recommendation for the all-inclusive warranty. I have mixed feelings because we have had ALOT of problems with our Dell laptops (2 motherboards in 2 years), several screens that have gone bad, etc.. BUT they always fix/replace it quickly and efficiently. And usually they will send a technician right to you. I loved that commercial last year that had the college students soaping down their dorm hallway and riding their Dell laptops like a slip-n-slide!

Oh, we did hear when we went to the June-O the computing people were telling people that if they hadn't bought a laptop yet to wait until mid to end July because Dell was upgrading their line. Just our luck, trying to be ahead of the game and having this major purchase out of the way early!!

Missed the June O and already bought my son his computer- Dell has delivered it already!! UGH!!! I guess they are always updating computers- can't even try to keep up with that- I am sure the one we got will be fine-it is nicer than the one we have at home!!! :) Still have to get a printer and stuff but that can wait a bit!!! I feel better about a Dell as I know that they are really good about repairs and stuff-like you said. My husband and my Dad have one and they love them- hopefully we won't have any trouble. My son would have preffered an Aplle-MAC as he says they are less prone to viruses. How is Denisons system as far as viruses go?? Any suggestions??? I don;t think that this computer came with any virus software. We have Aol at home and that works pretty good-their virus software is McAffee and ahvnt; had too much trouble?? It is free with Aol. Hope you all had a great 4th of July!!!
