I got A’s in calc 1,2,3 and diffeq. Honestly I didn’t feel challanged at all until I got to actual engineering classes.
I’d say calc 2 is harder than calc 1 and 3.

HIGH SCHOOL:
AP Calc AB - A/5
AP Calc BC (online) - A/5
High school mathematics gold medallion junior and senior year.

COLLEGE:
LinAl I: pass
DE I: pass
MultiV I: C-
MultiV II: B-
ProbStat: C-
DE II: C
LinAl II: C

Hmm… I guess HMC math and I didn’t get along. Whatevs. People think I’m TOO mathematical sometimes. The funny thing is that I use MultiV weekly at work and it seems to clear and easy to me even though I took that class 3+ years ago. I probably just take a long time to “digest” material and thus am not good at immediate tests.

I sucked at BC (C+ first semester, B second semester) and have done better in college calculus. I got a B in Calc 2 (honors, all the applied stuff was very different from the applied stuff we did in BC) but I didn’t try as hard as I should have, and if I had tried harder I think I could have gotten an A. The kids who were in my BC calc class were basically 80% geniuses, and that class really seemed to be formatted for them.

If you’re asking because you’re in a BC class and aren’t doing well, don’t be discouraged.

RocketDA, what line of work are you in?

Calc 1 , 2 , DE, - A’s
LA - B
Multi- B+ , Probability - A, Complex - B , RA - B- , FA - dropped it (w)

Those of you who got Bs or Cs in your calc (and other math) classes, what do you think was the reason? Lack of studying? Did anybody teach themselves the material ahead of time, from the book?

Tom - I got the B in Calc 1 because I was taking that intro to programming class and became so obsessed with getting my program to work for the final project. I did get the program to work eventually (I was the only one to do so), but my math grade slipped at the end to a B. As for my Calc 3 woes, I study very hard for that class, understand the material, but go blank on the tests (I never had this problem before).

I do teach myself some of the material ahead of time, but I do that for all classes, not just math.

A, A, A (3 semester sequence).

^ you can tutor me any day! ;)

Double Major: Applied Math, Econ
So far
calc1 [A]
calc2- [A]
vector calc- **
discrete math- **
linear algebra- [A-]
probability and stats- [A]
probability theory- [A]

I got an A in Calc I and with two tests left to go in Calc II, I can get an A for the semester if I get a 70.5 and a 0 on the two remaining tests.

I’ve found Calc II to be much harder than Calc I, but very survivable. All but the simplest integrals require pencil and paper for me–there’s no doing complex integrals with substitutions and such in my head the way I can with complex derivatives.

calc I: B
calc II: A

Got 5’s on calc BC test and 5 on AB subscore too
calc III: I have like a 90% average and whether I get a B or an A pretty much depends on how hard I try the rest of the course lol

Guys, so differential equations is right after calc 3 and it is unrelated to calc 3 correct?
Also, what is after differential equations, discrete math or linear algebra?
thanks.

^ Differential Equations uses plenty of calculus along with algebra. It was related to calc 3 for me, because you have to know partial derivatives/integration for diffeq, which I learned in calc 3.

My Differntial Equations class had a prerequisite of completed Multivariable (Calc 3) and Linear Algebra

I am taking diff eq right and now and I think there is more calc 2 in it. All you need to know if integration by parts and other common integration techniques like “u” substitution.

Meh. A/A-/B+, some combo of that.

Honors Calc I C-
Honors Calc II C+
Analysis A-
Linear Algebra B

The honors calc sequence at my school might as well have been analysis. It was pretty hard, but taking an actual analysis course much easier.

Multivariate calc is in progress, but i got a 100 on the first exam.
Discrete math is also in progress but I got a 99 on the first exam.
Topology is in progress as well, but there is no homework and i haven’t passed in my take home exam yet. The prof. gave it to us 2 weeks ago and said there was no due date.

ME major

Calc 1: C
Calc 2: B
Calc 3: A
LinAlg: A
DiffEq: B

themediocre, I see you went from a C to a B to A’s. Why do you think that is? Did the classes get easier, did you need to get into the calculus groove, were you unprepared for the rigors of a college calc. class at first, did your study habits improve, some other reason?

We did a chapter on diffeqs in Calc II, although that dealt only with relatively simple first order diffeqs.
