What looks better- another sport or more clubs?

I am torn between doing fencing as a winter sport, or doing more clubs. I already play tennis (jv, will be in varsity in 2 years- my junior year). I have no idea how to fence, but most freshman don't either and we will be taught. Not many people fence at my school and I probably will get on varsity junior year. And I recently signed up for FCCLA, HOPE, LEO, and Environmental Awareness club. I need to choose between doing fencing or cutting out 1 or 2 clubs. By the way, I am a freshman. What will look better on college applications? I really would appreciate your help! If you think I should fence, which club should I cut?

Well idk about the fencing, but definitely make sure your in those clubs for the right reason. Plus when your in high school, there are more things to be discovered. Fencing sounds extreamly fun and I would definitely do it, but only do something because you’ll enjoy it, ECs come out more when you talk/write about it and like them versus something you tolerate to look good.

2 Varsity Sports > Random ECs

Random ECs don’t take much dedication-if any at all, and most of them are probably things you don’t really care about either.

Even one sport takes a LOT of practice to be good at, and if you are in two (and are good at them), then that shows a lot of dedication.

I’m in one varsity sport (I only practice during the fall and spring-and of course summer), and I’m amazed how some people manage to take a bajillion APs, participate in other ECs, AND play 2 varsity sports all at once. o3o

Please never say the words “what looks better on college applications” ever again.

Don’t participate in clubs or sports solely because you think it looks good on an application. Do whichever you think you’ll enjoy more. You’re a freshman in high school: you’re supposed to be finding your identity and exploring the world around you.

If you think you’ll have more fun with fencing, go with that. If you think you’ll have more fun with the clubs, go with them. Personally, I would never cut out something fun like a sport for a boring old club or two, but that’s just me. But hey, if you’re not terribly sporty like I am, you might enjoy doing the clubs more.

No matter what you choose, just find something you’re interested in and stick with it. :)

Quality>Quantity…that
s all I
m going to say. It`s up to you to interpret that as you wish.
