To an employer or in general, w.e...

1 BS in Accounting and Finance (Finance Major,) with a concentration in Finance

from average state school

or

2 BS in Economics and a minor in both Accounting and Finance and a minor in Communication Studies

from same average state school as above

^oops, thats a redundant “both.” the minors are Accounting and Finance and Comm. Studies

the first one also has a minor in Comm Studies…damnit…

As an economics major, I’d say definitely go the first route. There are FAR more jobs posted that have a requirement of “Finance Major” or “Accounting Major”.

Econ grads make good money, but it’s hard to sell themselves as easily, especially for companies / job search software that looks for specific majors.

That’s what I’ve been finding out online. The only reason is if I go the second route (Econ major, acfi minor,) I’d graduate sooner and also not have to take a whole bunch of management courses that I don’t want to (I think they’re pointless.) Also, I feel economics is far more challenging and employers would recognize that.

I also figured if I went the ECON way, I’d do a masters program (hopefully only a year) in Finance. They seem to be more focused on the classes I’d want to take/the ones I’d need. The only problem is I don’t have calculus. Do you think I could get into an mfin program graduating at least cum laude with an Econ major and ACFI minor?

The first one! Although an econ major allows for a more diverse choice of career
