I make scores in the 30s for all my other sections but the science section is really dragging me down. (I made a 23 on science the last time I took the ACT) For sections like math, I just took a bunch of practice tests and I just one day found the math section to be really easy. Same thing happened for the reading section. But I have tried reading the science passages and doing the questions and ignoring the passage and working the questions by going back and forth between the passage and the questions, but nothing clicks for me. What made it click for you? What can I do to bring up my science score? It’s the only thing dragging my ACT score down now.
The science section is very time intensive. Did you have a chance to finish every question?
My personal technique was to not read ANY of the paragraphs. The time is a killer, and the graphs are easier to comprehend quickly. I’ve scored between a 30-33 on the four tests I took by doing this.
It’s honestly weird. I kinda know whether or not I need to read anything or not. I skim the questions for anything that references a graph number. After that, I circle the “graph 3” in the question and the title of the physical graph 3. It helps me connect the dots for some reason; it makes me spend less time wandering the page trying to find the graph again.
I think of the science section as a reading section with numbers. I think I could make the same scores without having taken physics, chemistry, or biology.
36 first time I took it (HALLELUJAH), but unfortunately a 30 when I took it the second time (neglected science because I thought the 36 would pull me at least a 34).
Like ^^^^, focus on the graphs. There is ONE passage where you should absolutely read the paragraphs, and it’s the Student 1, Student 2, Student 3 one. Otherwise, focus on quickly interpreting data.
The concepts from biology, chemistry, or physics would be USEFUL, but not NECESSARY. For example, a passage on my test was about the concentration of a solution and pH. It would be beneficial to know the brackets mean concentration and pH goes from 1~12 where 1 is most acidic and 12 is most basic. Knowing what basic is in chemistry would also be helpful.
Like you did with math, all you really need is more practice. Aim for 5 minutes per passage as there are 7.
