I'll admit, I don't know what I'm going to do with my life. My mom seems to be very very supportive of me being a doctor. (Sure, that would be nice, but I don't think I would truly be happy as a doctor.) I'm a very confused person right now; I need to figure out what I want to be before it's too late.

So... what triggered you to pick a career? Was it your parents? An influential teacher? A love for a particular subject at school?

I'm an International Affairs & Geography double-major at GW set to graduate this spring. When I was looking at colleges, I had an idea of my career goals - I wanted to work abroad or have a lot of travel opportunities. Different cultures and languages have always interested me. As I went through college, I started to develop an interest in government work.

I guess for me, it was a mix of interest and having a general career interest. My parents were supportive of me because it also made sense in their head. They wanted me to be in a field that would be satisfying and pays decently.

Although it may seem this way now, but your career won't defined by your undergraduate studies. This is the time to explore different courses and interests. Take advantage of the freedom in front of you. Utilize the resources at the college you're at: professors, career center, upperclassmen, alumni, etc. Talk to as many people as you can and then take some time and reflect on it. It would be a bad idea to rush yourself into something you're unsure of. If you have questions for me, let me know.

Good luck!!
