What major does Stanford lack students in?

^see above.

hmm that's hard to answer because there isn't a stereotypical stanford student. Stanford is known for its well-rounded student.

I can tell you some of the most popular major?

Majors Granting Highest Number of Undergraduate Degrees in 2003-2004:
1. Biology or Human Biology
2. Economics
3. Computer Science
4. Psychology
5. Political Science

First, it goes without saying, but don't just check the box for some "unusual" major because you think it'll get you in.

To add to the above list, the most popular majors can also be broken down in wider categories this way:

Social Sciences: 28%
Engineering: 14%
Interdisciplinary Studies: 13%
Biology: 7%
Computer and Information Sciences: 6%
English: 5%
Psychology: 5%

Actually I am very interested in psychology and I know Stanford has one of the strongest psycholgy departments in America! Do I need to show an interest in or knowledge/achievements in psychology to get into that department?

Not for undergrad, you don't. Most kids change their majors anyway, and very few can come in knowing tons about psychology or anthropology or astrophysics or whatever else they might come out majoring in.
