What major does this?

I am interested in the designing of technical products such as cell phones, mp3 players, computers/laptops, and cars. I want to be able to design the products that are produced by companies such as, Apple or Dell.

So my question is, what major has to do with the design and creation of technical products?

Sorry for asking such a vague question, but I appreciate any help

thanks, grantl345

Industrial Design?

Yes, Industrial Design (although I’d say the “insides” of those products would be more of an electrical engineering, computer science and/or mechanical engineering major).

Take a look at these websites to see more about some ID programs.

[Industrial Design Program > School of Design > Carnegie Mellon University](http://www.design.cmu.edu/show_program.php?s=1&t=4)
[RISD : Rhode Island School of Design : INDUSTRIAL DESIGN](http://www.risd.edu/industrial.cfm)
[School of Design](http://www.daap.uc.edu/design/)

These are just a sample. I believe there are quite a few colleges with ID majors.

Univ of Cincinnatti even has a “Industrial Design: Trans Track”, which I assume has to do with cars, among other transportation-related products.

Thanks a lot Austinhills!

The best schools in industrial design are pretty much Cincinnati (co-op) and Art Center College of Design.
