My passion has always been racing and formula cars. I started out at the young age of 7 in karting with the goal of becoming a formula 1 driver. A couple of years ago i was invited to do test for a team in an entry level open wheeler car. It did not go very well as it turned out that i couldnt cope with the G forces. I waited a year and tested again, and i still couldnt handle the forces, i would just faint and feel ill.
Now that really made me depressed as it meant that i couldnt pursue my dream.
I am now coming up to the point where i pretty much have to decide for a major. I am still into racing and i really wanna have a meaningful position while working for a racing team. So i am thinking of engineering but i dont know what kind of engineering. I have always been doing well in school.
What kind of engineering would make me able to work in a racing team? Preferably a Formula 1 team.
Edit: Sorry, it seems like i put this thread in the wrong part of the forum.
Well, mechanical?? Some parts of the country have colleges that are in close proximity to the automobile industry or auto racing. The Detroit area has an enormous amount of auto research facilities. The stock car racing industry is centered in and around North Carolina, if i’m not mistaken.
Reading this briefly it occurs to me that in any sport (or other glamorous field) there’s an entire industry behind it. You’ll find administrators, attorneys, marketers, various levels of managers, event organizers etc.
It has to be the same for F1. The blogger recommends volunteering to get involved and to start networking to open doors. And he says “never ever give up.”
