What major for Psychiatrists?

Not completely decided on it, but if I want to become a psychiatrist, would a psychology major be appropriate?

I know I would have to get into med school, so would it suffice to complete the prerequisites with a background in psych?

How is the psychology undergrad program at UCI?

Wait do you want to be a psychologist or psychiatrist?

Because psychiatrist = med school. They have the ability to write prescriptions like doctors.
Psychologist = scientist who practices psychology, probably does clinical trials and what not.

If you plan to become a psychiatrist, you take the same pre-med classes just like any other doctor. Thats:
1 year g-chem
1 year o-chem
1 year gen. bio
1 year physics
1 year calculus

 • others unspecified

You can major in anything you like as long as you finish your pre-reqs and take the MCAT. A good major that will fulfill all the pre-reqs and is would be neurobiology. But I suggest you major in what you like, get a good GPA and grind through those pre-reqs. If you like psychology, then major in it. If you don’t, then don’t major in it.
