What major is more prestigious/has more demand?

I want to major in Economics. But, then there are several economics majors. Applied Economics, Economics, International Economics, Agricultural Economics, Econometrics.

Which has more job opportunities and is considered more prestigious?

Do help me decide.

Considered more prestigious by whom?

Employers.

I’d go with international because it seems to cover a wider range than the others due to foreign involvement being implied in the name. Just my opinion.

Whichever economics degree has the most quantitative economics and the least social science economics is generally the best route to go.

It’s impossible for people to know the curriculum for each emphasis at your school.

What does everyone think about financial economics? At my school, it is the same curriculum as economics but has more electives, one finance class, and one accounting class. Is this any good? I want to get into the finance field. The closest thing to a finance major at my school is economics or the finance minor.

What kind of employers? What do you want to do for a living?

Anything quantitative is superior on the job market compared to something that is not. Going the Quant route also opens up more options for future education (like a Masters in Finance or Econ Grad School).

If you go any other route, your chances for grad school in finance/econ is greatly diminished (if not completely eliminated altogether).

If you are looking for a job directly after obtaining your 4 year degree, employers hire people with masters nowadays.

Go for Agricultural Economics, it has good future demand.

Finance or Accounting.

Other than that, it all depends. I’d think it’s best just go to with the regular ‘Economics’ degree to be as broad as possible unless you have a particular path you know you want to pursue.
