So i got accepted to the spring semester, but it says my major and advising college is "LETTERS AND SCIENCES"? what is that?

I said Electrical Engineering as my major when i applied.

So i got accepted to the spring semester, but it says my major and advising college is "LETTERS AND SCIENCES"? what is that?

Same. It just means you were put in the undecided pool…

Well I’m undecided and that’s what I got into so either engineering was filled and they put you in letters and sciences instead or engineering is in that college. But I’m only assuming. Check their website

I’m sorry to hear that Falcon5. A admission officer told me that if you are not accepted to the major you applied, you will be in Letter & Science. It’s like you choose undicided when you applied.

I applied for Computer Engineering. I’m in Letter & Science too…

Engineering is an LEP (Limited Enrollment Program). It means the LEP did not accept you and you can work towards making it your major when at UMD.

ononhe you sound like this is very bad! ahh that cant be bad right! because i can just try for the eletrical engineering school later right? or does this mean i can’t major in electrical engineering at all during my time at umd?

and kinda surprised i got accepted into umd then; you know since the engineering school was filled. like i would think they would just reject me since there’s no space in the engineering school or engineering major. But its alright! im still ecstatic i got into umd haha

@Falcon5
And I quote myself:

ahh gotchya, thanks nuplex!

Since you got FC(Spring admit) your stats were too low for engineering direct. You can still go and try to switch later but you will have to do well to get accepted later.

im in the same situation for journalism… how do they decide who gets into LEPs and who doesnt?

I’m pretty sure each college has their own admissions process. so if you applied to an LEP, the school admits you directly.

im very confused though because i didnt even apply early action but i got my letter today. it admitted me to college park scholars but not into the journalism school…

From what I understand if the College that you applied to has a doubt about your stats …future sucess etc… They accept you in the Letters and Sciences College. You then can apply to the college that you orignally applied to.

My D applied to Mech engineering and was not accepted to the College of Engineering, but was accepted to the Letters and Sciences and the Park Scholars program…Does this make any sense???

She has been accpeted to the following schools for mech engineering:
University of Michigan
Purdue University
Penn State

All programs that are ranked higher than Maryland

Don’t take it to heart, clearly the admissions dept, it’s a bright group.

Hopefully you have applied to some other fine universities

@robonerdmom thanks, i was also accepted to university of michigan which i feel is a harder program so the whole thing is very strange. i appreciate your help!!

MelDexx21
Congrats
Go Blue for sure!!!

Umich is so impressive, that’s where my daughter is going for sure!!
