What major should I go for

I’ll be going to college for psychology but I want to get a job in public relations so I wanted to double major. The probelm is that most of the colleges I’m looking at the colleges that I’m interested in (UCF, NYU, USF,UCLA,FAU) and couldn’t find a degree for public relations. Should I just go for a Journalism degree, Mass Communication or a Human Communications?

I wouldn’t worry too much about that right now. You’re likely to change your major while you’re in college. College is for exploration, and you should take full advantage of the possibilities it offers. Any major that requires you to learn to listen, think, read, speak, and write well will serve your purpose. You’ll be hired and promoted for your abilities in these areas.

Having said that, you might start looking at majoring in advertising, management, communications, journalism, or marketing. If these prove too uninteresting, try theatre, philosophy, English, classics, languages, or another humanities major.

I just checked out some of the schools.

UCF - does indeed have a public relations major. It’s called Advertising-Public Relations and it’s in the College of Science.

USF - major in Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. (http://usfweb.usf.edu/academics/undergraduate-majors.aspx)

UCLA - no major, but has a public affairs minor. You can major in communication studies.

NYU doesn’t have a major in the field, but they do have a major in Media, Culture, and Communication in Steinhardt. You could also potentially go to Gallatin and design your own public relations major.

Florida Atlantic also doesn’t have a major in it, but they do have one in communication studies.

^In addition to that, you don’t need to major in public relations to do public relations. You can major in anything and then do internships in PR or related fields. But I think communications, or even psychology, is closer to PR than journalism is.
