What major :'(

Hey guys so recently i thought that chemcial engineering would be really cool at ga tech, so i chanaged to chem eng from civil eng. However, after lokking at some courses, it seems biomed is much better for premed prep since it requires biology. I honestly dont know if i want to go to med, or not but i was wondering is it possible to go to med school from chemical engineering? I like them both and tech is very good with them since they are ranked 2nd and 10th in the nation repestiviely haha.....I am only 18 so theres no way that im smart enough right now to know what i'll like or be good at, but i just wanted your opinions,

The following is under the assumption that premed is your goal:

If you want a premed curriculum, GT lets you do that, you just have to take extra courses. But if you want to minimize (EXTRA) premed work in your major (under the sweeping generalization that BME and ChBE have the same workloads), take ChBE. Sure, you’ll need to take biology as an extra course (or 2, you might need anatomy/physiology) in ChBE, but look at BME’s pre-health requirements ([BME | UnderGraduate Pre-Health Information and Requirements](http://acad.bme.gatech.edu/undergraduate/pre-med_info.php)). As you can see, you’ll have to take 6 chem-related classes, all of which are included in the ChBE curriculum. Again, I’m not sure of how many biology courses you’ll have to take. Also, please please consider what you’ll like to learn in college. Hell, you can go to med school with a Bachelor’s in english, as long as youve taken the right classes.

you can definitely go to med school after getting a bs in ChemE. you just have to realize that getting a hig gpa in ChemE is much harder than getting a high gpa in biology especially at a top engineering school like gt.(biology isnt easy either but its certainly not as hard as ChemE from what i hear) I was actually considering possibley going to med school (not anymore tho) and someone described to me what a ChemE perspective to medicine would be like. He said that unlike a typical doctor, a ChemE who went on to get an md views the body as a chemical plant(which is all that it really is). This is just what ive been told so u wld probably want to get more advice from more sources than just me. Btw im gunna be a ChemE freshmen next year at tech and personally i would rather work as a chemical engineer than become a doctor but thats just me. To answer your question tho its certainly possible and im pretty sure i remember them mentioning that at one of the info sessions so it cant be that uncommon. hope this helps
