--------------------------Background-----------------------------------
Ok so I'm going to be a senior in highschool.
I have a 1170/1600 SAT Score ( I know I must increase. I want a 1300+)
My GPA: Is 3.5-3.6
I score 90+ is EVERY History/English class I have taken since freshman year, and they're all APs/Honors.

My Scienes/Math grades are good, but not great. 85-89 (I've scored in the 90s in my Math classes before)

My problem: My parents said they wont send me to college if I don't have a major/focus going into freshman year. I don't know what I should do? I know the medical field will always have a good salary, but do my lackluster performances in the Math-Science oriented classes matter?

IDK what to do. Please help me. What major should I decide for next fall?>

Are your parents requiring you to focus on specific areas they like? I mean, are they steering you towards something they feel will help you land a “good” job after college as opposed to something else you are interested in studying? Or are they simply saying they want to know you have a “focus” period – on anything of your choosing – so they can be more confident they will not be simply wasting their money?

Also, if you start out taking a bunch of classes your interested in, you can end up dropping the ones you don’t like. You aren’t going to have to decide your major next fall anyways.

What do you love? What would you love to study for four years? What I read from your post is that your parents want you to be passionate about something-be it biomechanical engineering or dance or anything in between. So, what would you like to study?

Oh no no…I cannot major in anything im passionate about (I don’t even know my passion). Ie: I can’t major in dance, etc.

My parents want me to major in something that will give me a good job/good salary. I once suggested Buisness, but I was too nebulous on the subject.

My mom said that if I don’t choose a major soon…she will choose FOR me.

@victoriaheidi: My options…or should I option is medicine. What field of medecine should I look into if thats what my parents feel would get me money

If you are good enough, you could get into a med school with UG major in Finance or business. You just have to take enough science classes to qualify. Med school is a graduate program.

As far as UG medicine related field would include Nursing, Pharmacy and Bioengineering.

@artloversplus or anyone: Can you please explain to me how Undergrad works. I choose a major in undergrad, are there any requirements? Like lets say I do medicine, is there a science requirement I would need? Like persay a certain SAT score, or a certain grade in a highschool science class. I don’t understand what major has to do with UG. And lets say I do a UG in finance and buisness…medicial school would come after so what do I till then? In between UG and Grad, I’d need a job would I get jobs in buisness, then do med. after?

Cause in America, medicine seems to be the cashcow (Obama’s health care might stymie that), if I UG in a medical field, I could go for an MBA correct? My only problem with med. is people’s life depending on me. I don’t want to hurt someone, or prescribe a bad medication. IDK help.

Usually, future med school students pick a major in college (often science-related, although I’m not positive that’s a requirement) and a pre-professional emphasis (pre-med). A pre-med advisor would then help you plan out which classes you’ll need for med school and help you plan your testing schedule.

If I were you, I’d go to the pre-med board (go to the main board page and scroll down-I know we have one!) and mention this there. People there know a little more than I do on the subject of med school.
