What Majors Are UCSD Good At?

What majors are good at UCSD?

By this I mean what fields is UCSD known to be good at. I know that bioengineering is somewhere around #2 in the nation. How are the other engineering majors ranked? How about economics or sociology? I'm an incoming freshmen, and UCSD gave me sociology, but I plan to change.

Thanks!

ok.

undergraduate majors and programs are NOT ranked.

the rankings you're looking at are for the graduate programs. and since you've already decided to matriculate, i will be blunt and tell you that majoring in something just because UCSD is known for it is a waste of your time and money. college is an opportunity to explore your academic interests and pursue them as far as you want, not to say "oh goody UCSD is a great engineering school, i should be an engineer even though i can't understand calculus for the life of me!"

firstly undergrad majors for engineering are ranked- type bioengineering undergraduate ranking and ull find us news has each major ranked but u have to log in to see the whole thing. also it is possible that having come from a better bioengineering program that ur future will be easier- getting into grad school work etcc

i think neuroscience is pretty good there.. from what i've heard.

top-notch biology programs. we're like the best for undergrad biology. i know hella kids who got accepted to berkeley that are choosing sd for their bio program

bio & bio chem pretty much, in addition to bioengineering

astrina is getting annoyed by all of the ucsd or ___ questions. :P

i'm sure most people don't choose their school based solely on major. i'm sure there's a lot of thought that goes into it, accounting for location, cost, fun-factor, whatever, but choice of major does take (and should take) a big chunk of the consideration. i don't see how accounting for the reputation of the programs is a bad thing...

ucsd is really good in a lot of areas. most notably, engineering (esp. bioE), biology, chemistry, political science, theater (as i've been told), dance, and others...there's a big spectrum so if you were to change, there are several other fields to consider.

ucsd has a pretty good international studies program. you choose two tracks, and both econ and sociology are options

UCSD is a solid campus all across the board, most notably in the sciences and engineering. Don't worry about rankings and prestige so much because in the end, they mean very little, if nothing, for most people. And major in something you like, not something that is just prestigious.

political science~

BME is without exaggeration among the best in the Nation. no questions asked. (and yeah, from above posts, I too got into Cal, but I'm choosing SD for BME)

yes, just a tad annoyed. :)

but i feel like we're fielding the same questions over and over, no?

happyioaw so i got into ucb too for bioeng and wondering wat r the reasons ur choosing ucsd over ucb and ucla? i really think ucla would b a fit for me personally but im unsure this is the best choice for my future as far as getting a high gpa and internship opportunites.

if anyone could describe wat grad admissions look at and how important those pieces to ur application are that would b great.

@omeed347 - there's a graduate school forum that can better answer your questions. but i think you already know the basics.

how's computer science at ucsd? just wondering
