Hello, I am doing my first year at a CCC, trying to transfer Fall 2013 with a Cognitive Science major.

There are only 5 UC's that offer the major (UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCM, UCSC)

I really am hoping for UCLA, but if that doesn't work out I don't want to settle for a school I don't want.

So, because I am doing all the prep work for CogSci, I need a "back up" major that I can use to.

What majors overlap with CogSci?

My prep work includes all of this: Transfer Major Prep - Cognitive Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions

Anything else I should know?

I’m not 100% sure but I’d guess psychology or biological psychology?

Computer science, first and foremost. Also, neuroscience or neurobiology… and philosophy, of course. Linguistics, too.

Ditto to what they all said. Psych, neuroscience, CS, linguistics, philosophy, etc. How do you not know what correlates with your major/area of interest? Not trying to sound mean, just curious because I applied as Cog Sci for UCSD and Psych for UCLA. Thinking of a double with both. You should go here and learn more: www.cogsci.ucsd.edu/about-us/ucsd-cog-sci/

Sorry if this is a dumb question, (I’ve never done a UC app)
but when you do the UC application, I thought it was one application for all the UC’s, so you couldn’t do what you did and have 2 potential majors for two different UC’s?

Because the first personal statement prompt is about how you got interested in your major. Did you talk about both or something?

You choose each major for each school. But every school gets the same personal statement.
I’ve seen people have different majors for different schools but they are usually closely related so i guess the personal statement does not have to be super specific.

Yes, I just wrote about both interests in my personal statement since they are easily relatable and then wrote about how they relate to my interest in the medical field. You can apply to a different major at every UC you apply to if you’d like, you just have to find a way to tie them together in your PS.

But I forgot – Only UCLA, UCB, UCI, and UCM look at your personal statement (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1248554-ucs-do-not-read-personal-statements.html)

So I’ll most likely just focus on CogSci in my personal statement and try to hold a TAG with UCSD, seeing as though it wouldn’t matter to the other schools.

Thanks for the help
