What makes for a good tour?

The best tour guide we had remebered people's questions and when we would pass a building or a person that was in reference to that question, she would point it out. Things like, this communicaton building houses film, journalism, art etc. For those that asked about art, the art dept office is on the 2nd floor and for those interested in the paper, that office is on the fourth floor. When we would pass a professor she would say, that is Dr. so and so who teaches history. If she knew a quick anecdote about the professor, she would tell it as we walked and if they got close enough to hear her she would say, good morning Dr. xxxxxx. That forced the professor to acknowledge the group. She walked us quite a ways down the side walk to introduce my daughter to the Honors School Dean after the tour when she saw him. These little things really made the school feel much friendlier than its reputation and made an impression on everyone.

Make sure you answer the questions... I went on a tour once and asked if there was a good transportation system from the campus to various places (I think I mentions the airport). The tour guide kind of ignored and evaded my question and never answered it even though I asked a few times. It was really annoying.
