sunglasses, I agree with you. I don't think that just because you don't like the immediate feeling of a campus, you won't like the college. That's why I'm giving Harvard a 2nd chance and trying to find things I can like about it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Thanks for that link Byerly

i went to the summer program and applied EA... id love to go there... but i really feel like it IS just about the people... and knowing that there was a high acceptance rate to the summer program means that you can meet amazing people anywhere you go (which is comforting when you think about the number of people which actually get in heh)... but i really think i probably would have had just of good of a time at any other program... aside from the fact that i was ACTUALLY at harvard.... which seems pretty cool to me :P

Kind of ironic. Last Saturday around the same time you were visiting, some high school kids came up to me as I was walking back to my dorm with clean laundry + asked me some question about TFs at Harvard. I ended up giving them a 15 minute "unofficial tour" about what I felt set Harvard apart from other places. I think they got a lot out of it (I know I enjoyed it!), so maybe the moral of the story is feel free to go up and talk to some random undergrad, if they don't look too busy.

What do I think has set Harvard apart? I have my own amazing people anecdotes (a "sexpert" friend, a rodeo queen, a 22 year old officer from the Swiss army, among many others), but there's a lot more. The academic offerings have really excited me... I think I "shopped" at least 10 classes this semester (shopping period + reading period are both relatively unique to Harvard). I love the house system (something present only at Harvard, Yale, Rice, + overseas), and how frats+sororities aren't a major social force (importance of finals clubs can be debated, I don't find them to be a big deal).

I love how everyone here is horribly competitive (seeing just how many clubs they can join, how hard they can make their schedule, etc), but at the same time incredibly helpful + cooperative. I'm sure the nearly-required busyness turns off a lot of people, though.

I could go on (Cambridge, the beauty, the big name profs...) but I gotta get my rest before a long Harvard - Yale weekend.
