I've been looking at North Carolina State University, and it sounds good enough, but I've had trouble finding non-NCSUwebsite information about what makes it stand out from other schools. What does it "feel" like, what is the student body like, etc.?

I have friends attending State, and they love it. It is cheap for the in state students, great academics and class selection. It is diverse, and good job prospect. UNC student bodoy is more stuck up, sorry UNCers. That’s my 2 cents. The UNCers have a saying that is kind of insulting: “UNC is cultural, NC State is Agri-Cultural”

One thing that makes it different from most schools is that you apply to NCSU, you apply directly for your major. You list a first and second choice major on the app. and you are accepted or denied based on that. So if you are accepted to the College of Engineering, then you’re an engineering major from the first day of freshman year. There is no taking pre-reqs for two years and hoping to get admitted as a junior to your major.

I would agree with multitasker that State students are generally down to earth, regular guy kind of kids. You don’t have to wear certain brand clothes or be Greek to fit in a NCSU.

And since State does have an Agriculture school with cows, there is all you can eat fresh homemade ice cream in the dining halls for every meal, every day.
Not every school can say that!

Well said Packmom!
Yes, the campus may not be pretty, but the aura of happy kids is something else.
