What Makes Penn different?

What do you feel sets University of Pennsylvania different from other comparable schools?

Besides Wharton please.

Because it's called the University of Pennsylvania.

Seriously though, what are you asking? Different from which comparable schools? In what ways? How "comparable" must they be? Have you even checked Penn's website?

Well. I've visited and thought that the school was a fit for me. I liked the student population demographic, the academic strengths, the campus and the city of Philly. I am going back in a few days for a third time and just want to know if there is anything in specific I should look for that would make UPenn my standout far-and-away number one ED school.

Is there anything truly different about the school that I should be aware of? Anything interesting that makes Penn special or unique? Academic programs, traditions, extra curriculars?

Penn has many interesting joint programs like Jerome Fisher and the Huntsman Program, which you could look into.

this may be helpful for insight into penn traditions:

sweet potato fries

Penn is different because it is called University of Pennsylvania, but no one who goes there calls it that.

awesome. Keep it coming! How about its performing arts programs? Oh and about those joint programs, does any other college have those?

much appreciated. OK i'm about to become obsessed with the department of music. I'm a music major in high school, and i want to minor in it during college. This has some sort of advantage..right?

I do not think this is a an advantage based on the fact that you just said that you want to minor in it. Unless you are very good in music, it would not make a difference on your application. It would be just like every other extracurricular.

even though my diploma is stamped saying i majored in music? That stamp can get me easily considered at Juilliard! I'd love to be an addition to Penn's orchestra and chamber music and whatnot, but i'm not going to make it a big part of my life. I know music is one thing i'm very good at...including ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, etc. Perhaps if i find a way to blend music and science, that could help.

"That stamp can get me easily considered at Juilliard!" Did someone tell you that or is this what you feel?

It's true. They are right across the street from my high school and we're around Juilliard students all the time. This is not my opinion. It's just amazing.

You may wish to submit a supplementary audio tape or CD as per Item 7, Form 1B of the Penn application.

oh that works. It helps too, right? i play more than one instrument.
