What material exactly is on math level 2?

Some of the material in my barrons book (like finding the foci, eccentricity, and length of latus rectum of a parabola) isn't mentioned at all in my PR book. I'm a bit confused as to what exactly is on the test and I don't want to waste time learning stuff that I won't have to know.

Are these topics on the sat II level 2 or is it just barrons trying to be too smart?

foci, eccentricity, latus rectum for ellipse, hyberbola, parabola
sin (A+B), cos(A+B)
all the double angle and half angle formulas

These topics just aren't mentioned at all in my PR book but they are in barrons.

There might be one or two questions on the actual exam regarding any of those topics.

There are no pure geometry questions, which kinda sucks becasuse i like similar triangles, areas…

Its mostly like 25 questions in algebra (functions…), 15 in coordinate geometry, including trig, and then 10 others, including possibly stats, matrices,…

And barrons is not a good book for SATs…its way too hard.
PR is a lot better

1232cricket I know the topics I just don’t know the depth of each topic.

Well heres the thing about trig

Instead of memorizing cos(a+b), you can do cos(a+b) on your calc.

For exmaple, if they tell you that a=30 and b=40, and they say find cos(a+b), DONT DO cosacosb-sinasinb and pluyg in 30 and 40 into that. Just do cos(30+40)=cos(70).

Also, I just asked somebody…he told me on his test, there were no ellipse and hyperboals and said that if there was a question about it, it would be straightforward (asking about length of major axis, finding c), and there would be only a maximum of 1-2 on the test…

the double angle and additon formulas are not going to be hard because you have a calc…you can always find sin(15) directly instead of doing the half-angle formula to find sin15 using sin30…

Without a calc, then it might be a probelm

Yeah, Barron’s is just way too hard. It has a lot of things that you will never need for the test.

Yeah, it kind of freaked me out for the past few days. But then I almost nailed an 800 on the CB test. While getting under 700s on the Barron’s.

Regardless, you should still kind of know some of the harder topics, you never know what might happen.

What is the curve exactly? Is it like -8 for 800? thanks

Apparently a raw score of 44 is an 800.

thanks…I definitity taking math II last since its my best subject so even if Im tired, it wont affect me as much.

lol, I’m taking it first.

According to what we are taught at my school: yes. My teacher stresses things like this and other more difficult material, but I don’t know if that’s because he’s an elitist or not. However CollegeBoard says this:

"Mathematics Level 2 is a broad survey test intended for students who have taken college-preparatory mathematics for more than three years, including two years of algebra, one year of geometry, and elementary functions (precalculus) and/or trigonometry… You’re not expected to have studied every topic on the test, but you should anticipate the following:

* Number and Operations

 • Algebra and Functions
 • Geometry and Measurement (coordinate, three dimensional, and trigonometry)
 • Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability"

I hope this helps.
